Chapter 0 – Prologue
After all, no one knows what will happen to the world at any time.
For example, one day, the Earth in several dimensions suddenly overlapped.
As a result, the day will come when races living in each dimension will make eye contact with each other.
They somehow escape from that messed up situation, achieve dramatic harmony, and somehow the world moves on without going to shit.
The world is such that such things can happen.
And in that process, there were people who were eliminated.
“…Fuck.”
And the fact that it was me made me feel like shit.
I’ve never been unlucky in my life.
I tried so hard that I thought I might see some light, but in an instant, I fell into the abyss.
I studied until my nose was bleeding while being scolded by the manager who complained about my high electricity bill. I got good grades and got hired at a good company. I wondered if I could somehow become a cog in society and run around, but that society was a mess. One of the many people who have become cogs that do not meet the standards.
Because that was me.
A world that suddenly changed. As a result, jobs suddenly disappeared. A shitty life that I thought would work out somehow, but somehow it didn’t.
Who said that if you go electric, you’ll never starve for the rest of your life?
Thanks to you, I ended up starving.
“Really fuck.”
Historically, there have been times when existing jobs disappeared due to sudden technological advancements or something, but I never thought I would be a part of that.
Even more so because of things you only see in fantasy, such as magic and other things.
I have no idea what the nonsense is about providing power through magic attribute generation or something. The only power generation I know of is hydropower, nuclear power, geothermal heat, solar power, and the like, but what is magic attribute power generation really?
There was even something called the development of demonic beasts in this damn world.
They produce electricity by raising large numbers of rat-like creatures that generate electricity.
Each animal is powerful enough to roughly power a household, reproduces quickly, and above all, the cost of producing electricity is only about the same as the cost of feed for this rat.
Something unimaginable was happening in this world.
Even though making electricity out of a rat is such an unthinkable task, it is at least one of the best things about it.
Anyway, the important thing was that there was no going back.
Two years since the world went to shit like that.
In the meantime, I was going through various hardships and in the end, despite saving and caring for it, I ended up forgetting all the savings I had.
Actually, I haven’t done anything during that time.
If you don’t feel a sense of crisis while looking at your bank account balance that keeps decreasing, you’re an idiot.
I also tried my best in many ways. However, in the midst of the chaos, there was nothing worth working for due to the war and all, and by the time the chaos subsided, I couldn’t find a job for other reasons.
Nowadays, there are many different races that are much more powerful than ordinary humans who have no ability or effort, which was common in the past. For humans with no talent whatsoever, finding a decent job was like finding a star in the sky.
Honestly, if there were a different race that could do three or four times as much work as an average human at the same price, I wouldn’t use a different race or a human.
Because reality is a cruel law.
Still, I wonder if this is too much.
It’s so cruel it makes you feel like you’re freezing.
Of course, I know why this happened. That’s because there aren’t just one or two bastards like me.
Oh my goodness, who would have guessed that dimensions would overlap and the world would end up like this?
As much as no one knew.
There were countless people who collapsed overnight.
Because it was such a big change, more than one cog was eliminated. At the height of chaos, there was even a not-so-funny joke about how the water temperature increased due to the body temperature of a person who jumped into the Han River.
But it was worth it.
Even if it’s just me, I feel like I want to run away and reset my life.
However, the temperature of the Han River still seemed too cold for that. The temperature was too cold for me, who had a hard time bathing without hot water even in the middle of summer.
“Haaa…”
I took a deep sigh and got up.
Even if I looked for a part-time job hiring humanoids like this, there was no way I could find a job, and I needed money even more at a time when I had to save money to buy ingredients for tomorrow’s meal.
Yes, I had to do whatever it took to save money.
“Anything… Yes, do anything…”
I mumbled as if I was promising myself, put on some clothes and went outside.
It was a rough life, but I didn’t want to end it like that.
Then, there was one way left for me.
Because there was still one job left for the humans who had fallen into the abyss of the world.
I took a number and waited for several tens of minutes. Finally, when my turn came and I approached the window, a government employee who appeared to be a receptionist spoke to me.
“How can I help you?”
Is this really all it is?
Even after coming this far, it wasn’t that I didn’t think about it, but it was just a brief hesitation. If not this, then what are you going to do? I shook my head and opened my mouth.
“…I heard that I can get a job if I come here. “A job called a dispenser.”
“Ah…”
With those words, I could feel the girl, who seemed to understand everything, looking at me with pity.
Buying sympathy.
It was a really shitty feeling, but considering my current situation, it was something I couldn’t help. Anyway, I was so fucking jealous. Even though the world was a mess, if there was a job that was less messed up, it was the civil servants right in front of me.
In fact, he said that the work has increased so much that it has become more difficult, but he is still better than me. No, seeing as the world has become like this and jobs have not disappeared, the girl in front of me is already in a position that cannot be compared to someone like me.
Fuck…
I’m so fucking jealous.
Anyway, since the other person was also a civil servant, the young lady quickly corrected her expression and said as she took out a few documents.
“According to the regulations, in order to do that work, you have to get tested at a designated location.”
“A prosecutor?”
“Yes, I don’t know the details. “They say there is such a rule.”
I see…
But after hearing it, I thought that was also true.
When I think about it, I wasn’t the only person who fell into the abyss of life. There must be countless people who have come here in droves.
And then select all those people?
It was a story that made no sense.
I don’t know the details, but there’s no way the budget will soar like that.
I learned something I didn’t know before, but it made me very anxious. This is why I came this far with so much intention, but there was a real possibility that I wouldn’t get anything even here.
Fuck, if it falls here too, I really need to measure the temperature of the Han River.
What should I do?
I was so fucking anxious.
“Well, don’t worry too much. “It seems that humans are preferred for this job, and most of the humans who applied seem to have been accepted.”
“Is that so…”
He seemed to be trying to comfort me after seeing my expression darken, but it wasn’t very helpful advice.
Talking about preference and all that isn’t particularly comforting. I don’t want to say anything, but there is no way I would select not just one or two humans like me, but all of them.
It was a useless consolation, similar to the words of an employee at a vocational training center who advised me not to worry because two more people were selected this year than last year.
Fuck, even back then, there were hundreds of applicants just because they were hiring two more people than last year. A similar situation could have happened here as well, but it couldn’t have been worse.
What should I do?
Thanks to this, I became more anxious.
As I was biting my fingernails because shaking my legs couldn’t solve the problem, the civil servant girl who looked at me as if she couldn’t see me like that said something.
“Well, I’m just asking for confirmation. “Is it true that you volunteered for the job yourself?”
“Yes? Yes, well…”
“Then, please fill out this consent form…”
After filling out the consent form, I saw a document emitting light. I blinked in surprise, but the civil servant girl casually put the documents in an envelope and handed them to me.
“It’s magic. Is this your first time seeing this?”
“Ah… Magic.”
I saw it for the first time.
No, I have seen it quite often and several times, but this was the first time I saw it with my own eyes.
It was magic.
I wondered if magic was being used to fill out the consent form, but it had nothing to do with me.
It was magic and damn it, all I had to do was get a job and make money.
“Is this the end?”
“Something that can be handled here.”
When the civil servant girl said that, she nodded and stood up, and she carefully opened her mouth.
“…Then, take care of yourself.”
“Yes, take care of yourself too.”
Even at the end, I smiled bitterly at the words of the civil servant who spoke with a pitiful expression, as if she had seen me abandoned by the world, and left the center with an envelope of documents in hand.
“Take care of yourself… Of course you have to be careful.”
This damn thing is trying to make a living, so of course you have to be careful.
Well, no matter how careful you are, there are some things that cannot be helped.
The world today is roughly that kind of world.
It doesn’t make sense for multiple dimensions to merge, but for some reason, multiple races living in each dimension suddenly started living together.
It’s a shame that it wasn’t just the dimensions that were merged, but also the land, oxygen, and other things. If it were just the dimensions that were merged, I would have been trampled to death by the different races that lived together.
The population of this small land, which was once thought to be 50 million at best, has easily passed 100 million.
So many people.
Numerous tribes lived on this land.
Races with different cultures, different histories, and different ideologies. We ended up living together without even knowing why.
Unlike at the time when even communication between each other was impossible, now it seems to have stabilized in some way, with an institution with the grand name of world government being established, but everyone probably knows that it only looks that way on the outside.
Power, resources, technology, etc.
Anyone with a brain could have realized that various interests were intertwined and that they were watching each other on a peace made of thin ice.
However, even in situations where everyone is cautious, there are some things that cannot be helped.
When I think about the world of the past when I think about the events and accidents that happen every day, it feels like I’m watching a blockbuster movie.
For example, the current reality is that pitiful human beings who get their heads blown off after being hit by a drop of saliva when a giant sneezes have become trivial incidents that are not even on the news.
At the very least, if a village were to sink in the urine of drunken giants, it would be newsworthy.
To me, an ordinary human with no special abilities or anything, it would be no surprise that it would be a very cruel world.
The world government said that all races were equal and had the same rights, but in reality, something had to be required to enjoy those rights, which was the same in the previous world, so it was easy to understand.
It was a bit different that that right could be directly linked to life.
“But if I want to make a living, I have to do this.”
I was muttering while clutching the documents I had received.
Kuooooo
A dragon was seen flying across the sky with a sound as if a typhoon was passing by.
“Hmm, c’mon.”
No matter how many times I watch the scene of a really big dragon flying over a building, I can’t get used to it.
Nothing like that has ever happened in the world, but the day that dragon lands on something while flying, a city will be blown away.
And on that day, there will be an article about a city collapsed by dragon poop or urine.
I thought it would be a hotter topic than sinking in giant urine. And wouldn’t there be a ban on flying for dragons?
Still, I think I’m really fucking scared.
Even if something that size were walking around the city, you would have to worry about getting stepped on.
The sight of such a gigantic creature flying overhead was truly terrifying to a human being.
But.
“I have to live even if it sucks.”
Even if the world changes, you have to make money to live.
You never know when dragon poop will fall from the sky and roll around. To live, you had to have money.
Ugh.
The paper bag containing the documents I was holding was crumpled.
Yeah, fuck it.
I don’t know what will happen, but it’s true that it’s better than having to worry about the temperature of the Han River.
I strengthened my resolve again and shouted with all my might.
“Gazuaaaaa!”
