## Chapter 56 – The Black Magician’s Request
After that, unfortunately, I couldn’t find many scale wolves.
I only managed to find one.
ㅡStab!
Gibson pulled the sword firmly embedded in the scale wolf’s neck. He had just succeeded in a group hunt. Luckily, my and Gibson’s teamwork went very smoothly, and we were able to cut off its breath in one blow.
“With four hides and some magic herbs collected, we should be able to earn about 25 to 30 coppers per person.”
Gibson said, wiping the blood from his blade.
With a simple calculation, one scale wolf hide was worth about 20-something coppers, so selling them along with the magic herbs would make for a decent daily wage. These days, I’ve been lucky enough to earn big money, but originally, people would be ecstatic to receive just 15 coppers a day.
Of course, I won’t sell them because of the request.
“That’s a good profit. I think we can head back now, right?”
It’s a bit early, but I think it’s okay to wrap things up here. The goblins’ dicks (not in a sexual way) kept flashing before my eyes. It’s a bit of a shame, but they’re resilient creatures, so there will be another opportunity.
We left the skinned corpse behind and left the area.
ㅡWoof, woof.
ㅡGrrr.
“A goblin pack.”
After wrapping things up and heading back the way we came, we encountered a pack of goblins when we arrived at the mossy area. There were five of them.
If that’s the case, I should give them a hand while I’m at it.
ㅡGrrr…
Goblins are monsters that look like dogs with the ability to stand on two legs. They travel in packs, putting them in a similar category to kobolds and goblins. If we were to rank their combat power individually, goblins are the strongest, followed by goblins, and then kobolds.
Of course, they’re no match for me. As long as I’m careful not to get my neck bitten, I’m confident I can win even if four of them attack at once. Their bite force is not to be underestimated, but there’s an absolute difference in our species. As I always say, I’m bigger.
“I’ll kill them; they’re in the way.”
“That’s unnecessary… They’ll disappear on their own if you leave them alone.”
“If you don’t know what to do, just strike first.”
Maurice was right; it was unnecessary. If it weren’t for Lisha’s request. As someone carrying out a double request, it was an essential procedure.
“Hmm, this will do.”
I picked up a rock lying nearby.
That’s right. It was a chance to use Magic Bolt after a long time.
I’ve been itching to use it since I haven’t used it lately. I tossed the rock up and down, pretending not to throw it, whistling and faking it, then I threw it with all my might.
ㅡWhoosh!
The rock cut through the air. The distance to them was a bit far, but it was thrown quite well. The unfortunate victim was one of the guys who was staring at us stupidly.
ㅡCrack!
ㅡGrrr!
“Nice!”
With a sound like an exploding watermelon, the guy’s head was smashed… well, not killed, but he screamed once and then ran away. All five of them were so surprised that they ran away in complete disarray.
“Seriously, those bastards.”
To not be able to one-shot such low-level monsters. It seems my skills have rusted. This is bullshit. My pride was deeply wounded.
“You chased them away well. Let’s go now.”
“Damn.”
Well, I can always collect the goblins’ dicks tomorrow. Just possessing those unpleasant and cruel biological dildos would pollute my mind. Maybe I should just collect them on the last day.
If not, oh well.
That’s my motto.
If it works out, I’ll do it.
ㅡGrrr…
ㅡThud.
“Huh.”
One of the goblins who had been running away for a while suddenly collapsed as if he had lost consciousness. It was the guy who had just been hit in the head with a rock. Did the concussion come a little late?
I was just going to let it go, but this bastard, I can’t let this go. How dare he collapse there?
I jumped out from among my companions and ran towards the goblins.
ㅡWoof, woof!
ㅡWoof!
There were a total of five goblins. However, one was already collapsed with a concussion, and the other two ran away without looking back at this unexpected situation.
That left only two. The two of them seemed determined to protect their fallen comrade, puffing up their fur and standing in front of the fallen goblin, barking threateningly. They bared their fangs and spat. It was the maximum hostility and threat towards me.
“Oh… this bastard, is he trying to protect his comrade?”
I couldn’t help but be impressed.
In this messed up world where humans backstab each other and steal from each other, these creatures, who are just mere monsters, are willing to sacrifice themselves for their injured comrade. Come to think of it, goblins are intelligent. As intelligent as they are, they seem to understand the concept of camaraderie.
ㅡWoof woof!
ㅡWoof! Woof!
Their touching friendship made my heart ache. The reason they’re barking so loudly must be because they’re afraid of death. Nevertheless, they didn’t run away.
I have to cut off the dicks of these good guys. If that’s the case, I shouldn’t have thrown the rock in the first place and just ignored them and chased them away.
I’m not a thug who just kills anything and everything for no reason. Normally, I would have shed tears at this heartwarming scene and applauded before coolly leaving, but for whatever reason, I had a mission to collect the goblins’ dicks.
Unfortunately, now that things have come to this, I have no choice but to kill them all.
I have to get what I need, right?
I’m really sorry.
The only crime of these good guys was that they stood in the way of a cruel human to protect their injured comrade. How could I not only kill them but also castrate them? But I had to do what I had to do.
“…I’ll send you off comfortably.”
I swallowed my tears and swung my sword.
ㅡSwoosh.
Goblins are bipedal monsters. So, unlike other monsters, human-to-human swordsmanship is relatively effective against them. Just like Karin taught me, I swing my sword with murderous intent.
They don’t have thick hides or scaly armor, so when a sword with centrifugal force and acceleration flies at them, it’s game over.
“Farewell.”
With a clear trajectory, one goblin’s head fell off. It was a clean strike. The other goblin didn’t run away even after seeing that, but instead charged at me. Its eyes showed that it knew exactly what it was doing. I cut off its head as well.
The attack speed of a sword is faster than you think. As fast as it is, its cutting power is also excellent. After cutting off the heads of two goblins, I confirmed the kill of the goblin who had collapsed from the concussion. By that time, my companions who had been following behind had arrived. Maurice said it was unnecessary, and Gibson and Claudia asked why I killed them.
“When you see a monster, strike first.”
I answered vaguely and took out my knife to cut off their dicks. I secretly did it after the group passed me so they wouldn’t notice, but Claudia had been watching me the whole time and glared at me.
“Why… why are you collecting that? You have worse hobbies than I thought?”
“It’s a misunderstanding. Someone asked me to bring it.”
“Does that make sense? Ah, right. There was a tribe nearby that had a custom of grilling and eating stallion genitals… I guess there are cultural differences in each region?”
I think I’ve been misunderstood terribly. What the hell are those crazy bastards who grill and eat horse genitals? Anyway, after obtaining three goblin dicks, I put those unpleasant things in my bag and followed my companions.
That’s what happened on the way back.
Almost at the end of the swamp, I found one more scale wolf. With a lighter heart, I fought it with the intention of getting one last bonus. It was nothing special. I drove it, and Gibson injured it. It ran away towards Maurice.
But the scale wolf that was running away charged straight into Maurice, who had raised his axe high. It suddenly changed direction and jumped in, and Maurice couldn’t react. And Claudia killed the scale wolf with a single stab, piercing its neck while it and Maurice were grappling.
“Are you okay?”
“…”
Gibson said, lifting the fallen Maurice. Maurice, who had wounds on his face and neck, seemed very angry. Well, since we’re going back to the city anyway and won’t see each other again, it didn’t really matter what he did. We’re not going to see each other again after this.
And so, we succeeded in obtaining a total of five scale wolf hides. We could each have one, and then divide the money from selling the remaining one. That’s what I was going to say.
“I’ll take this.”
Maurice said, scratching his head. He picked up the hide with his rough hands. His tone was so natural that I thought he was saying something obvious.
What is he talking about?
“Ah, you’re going to carry it for me? I could just put it in my bag, but thanks.”
I thanked him, wondering if what this guy meant by ‘take’ wasn’t ‘occupy’ but that he would take it for now (carry it) and settle the accounts when we got back. Perhaps he felt guilty about something, so he was showing a decent act at the last minute.
“What are you talking about? Didn’t I kill two of them by myself? If you just do the math, it’s only right that I take one more. This is my share.”
“What.”
However, my hopeful prediction was miserably betrayed.
“What one kills, one takes. That is the law of adventurers. Do not covet what belongs to others.”
“Oh my god, seriously. Look at this bastard talking.”
I was shocked as if I had been hit in the head with a hammer by his amazing logical development. Even radical sophists would have been shocked and fallen over if they had heard Maurice’s words.
It’s true that he got the last hit ‘twice’.
“Hey, you son of a bitch. Did you kill it all by yourself?”
However, it was just the last hit on something that the team members had seasoned. No, he did get the last hit, so it’s not that insignificant of a contribution, but I’m going to undervalue it because he’s talking like a jerk. You last-hit stealing bastard.
The fact that we were able to kill five scale wolves was the result of the blood-like efforts of all the party members. We could never have killed them so easily if we were alone. That’s why we gather parties, isn’t it?
“Son of a, son of a bitch? What does that even mean?”
“It means your mother exploded and died in pieces.”
“…I don’t know what you’re talking about. Anyway, it’s true that I didn’t kill them alone, but it’s true that I killed them.”
“You’re cutting out the context and saying it’s yours because you killed it?”
Judging from his attitude, it seemed like this wasn’t the first time he had pulled this kind of stunt. He didn’t flinch even when I spoke in an intimidating tone. He must have created and overcome many crazy situations until he reached that age.
“You’re making it sound bad. But I killed them. There’s no need to argue any further.”
“How old are you? About five years old? You look like you’re over fifty, but why do you think so shittily?”
“You have no manners.”
“Bullshit!”
There’s a reason why he’s still E-rank even at that age.
He was a troublemaker.
However, I have to commend his strong mentality that doesn’t waver even at my swearing.
There are guys like that sometimes. Adventurers who have some skill but make a living by being assholes. I had temporarily forgotten because I had been partying with normal people lately, but in fact, most adventurers are just trashy bastards with ruined personalities.
If I started listing the things I suffered when I was F-rank, I could go on for three days and nights without end. Elise… Kopson… Meria… Meeting them made my heart weak.
“Okay, Katt. Calm down. And Maurice, I don’t think that’s right. Killing the monsters was something all of our party members…”
Claudia crossed her arms and glared at Maurice, and Gibson approached him and tried to stop him.
“The kid who did the least is talking the most. That’s why you shouldn’t party with kids.”
“…”
Maurice sneered.
If what Maurice said is true, then Gibson was the one who finished off the fourth scale wolf, so it doesn’t make sense for you to say he didn’t do anything, does it?
“I take it there are no complaints. This is my rightful share. Let’s go back now.”
Maurice, with his axe on his shoulder, naturally tried to turn around. Certainly, this kind of tactic would probably work on adventurers who don’t have experience. Some people might just see Maurice’s size and big axe and decide to count it as bad luck and move on.
But I had no intention of accepting such shitty coddling. Especially when it comes to money.
I glared at Maurice, suppressing one rising impulse.
“Got a problem?”
Maurice said.
“I have a lot, you idiot.”
I drew my sword.
