Dawn broke.
I could see the walls of Isvant in the distance. I started to feel relieved, but also a heavy sense of fatigue. It felt like my strength was draining away now that the end was in sight.

Wienia looked exhausted too. But Claudie didn’t seem particularly tired. She had the most stamina out of all of us.

Even though we could see the city walls, it was still an hour’s walk away. Claudie carried Wienia as we moved. I dragged Quites along.

Even this bird seemed tired from walking all night. But it was the last day, so hang in there. And so, we walked towards Isvant in silence.
As we walked, I saw the Quites rental shop.

That was our primary destination. As we approached, Quites cried out energetically. The bird knew a good home when it saw one. I thought it was just a dumb birdbrain, but it was pretty smart.
“Alright, Blackie. Go back quickly.”
“Okay. Wait here for a bit.”
As soon as we arrived at the rental shop, we unloaded our luggage at the entrance.
The trip had lasted a total of 18 days.
The fee was 25 coppers per day, so that came out to 4 silver and 50 coppers. We had initially paid 5 silver, so we should get 50 coppers back.
These guys really made money easily.
“Hello, customers! You’re here to return the Quites!”
“Yes. We rented it under the name ‘Magician Wienia.’ Please confirm.”
“Just a moment!”
I went inside the rental shop, and the girl I had seen before appeared. I gave her Wienia’s name, and she opened a ledger and flipped through the pages as if searching for the name.
“Magician Wienia! The rental period was 18 days in total! Is that correct?”

I dragged Quites towards the pen.
The girl said she would bring the change and went into the office building. A short time later, the girl came back with the change and handed me 50 coppers.

And so, I slung the backpacks that Quites had carried all this way over my shoulders. One for Wienia, one for Claudie, and two for me. I carried one in front and one in back.
Due to their anatomical structure, it was extremely difficult for them to carry the backpacks in front, so I couldn’t hand them over.
“We can go in, right?”
“I never thought I’d hear those words. Go on in.”
We passed through the guards who were slacking off as usual and entered the city.
Isvant was a city with an overall gray tone.
