Chapter 55 – Bank Robbery (2)
Usually, when you think of a bank robbery, you think of masked criminals at gunpoint threatening to hand over your money.
And usually that’s right.
Robbing banks in other ways is beyond the reach of most criminals.
However, if you rob a bank like that in Korea, you will be caught in less than three hours.
This place was originally a harsh environment for bank robbers, but it was even more so after the beginning of the Great Hunter era.
In Korea, B-rank hunters are scattered on the streets, and A-rank hunters often wander around.
From the point of view of weak robbers, it is no different from land mines everywhere.
I arrived at the scene half-expected and half-worried.
The head office of Gojoseon Bank in Jung-gu, Seoul was nestled next to large buildings.
Apart from a slightly ridiculous name, a decent conglomerate.
In addition, the Bank of Korea headquarters is located just a few blocks away.
Perhaps because the Internet news had already gone out, the front of the building was crowded with reporters and onlookers.
We passed them without difficulty and entered the scene.
As soon as the cops saw us, they frowned and went to their superiors.
“Wait a minute, you can’t come in here.”
“Shall we clean this person up, Master?”
“You are scolded.”
Tia, who was strangely motivated, became sullen at my scolding.
The police, who were in charge of a big case after a long time, did not want to leave their seats, but they had no choice because the authority of the special investigation team was much stronger.
Originally, the special unit was an organization that could operate only in situations where martial law should fall.
Of course, it’s not really like that, so I’m moderately relaxed.
“If you look at it for a second and it doesn’t seem to be a Hunter-related incident, you’ll get out of the way right away.”
“I don’t have any basis for the Hunter case…”
“Isn’t it proof that the Hunter case is that these competent police officers haven’t caught the culprit yet?”
It was only for a while that the person in charge at the site was in pain as if crying or not at my words.
Suddenly, acrid smoke began to rise from the basement of the building along with screams.
The police and staff inside were frightened and escaped outside.
“Wow!”
“What is it, fire?”
“It’s smoke. Suddenly there’s smoke from the basement vault…”
“Why are all these safes underground?”
Alice grunted, pulling back the hem of her dress.
I went forward with Yeriel and gave a rough explanation.
“That’s because the weight of bills piled up is no joke. Needless to say gold bars…”
“Wow… Yes, it’s Yeriel Frost!”
Dressed in his street clothes, Yeriel lightly stretched out one of his hands to absorb and compress all of his smoke.
Originally, that wouldn’t be the ability to use that way… It’s a really ridiculous application.
‘Wouldn’t this be possible somehow?’ Really do it if you want to.
We went down to the underground vault and found the source of the smoke without difficulty.
Acrid smoke was constantly rising from the floor of one side of the wide vault.
When Yeriel nodded, Kim Jung-tae, who came out in a suit, jumped into the smoke without hesitation.
When the police who had been following in haste were startled, Yeriel reassured them.
“You don’t have to worry because your abilities are at stake.”
“Oh, I see.”
“How did things go?”
“Well… I found something like a tunnel used for theft in the floor, opened it up, and that’s it.”
One side of the safe was emptied very neatly… Maybe he escaped by stealing the cash and gold bars that were there.
I picked up the floorboard the police had left behind and took a closer look.
Of course, even if it is a bottom plate, it is not originally designed to be removed.
As befits a safe at the headquarters of a large financial company, everything here was special.
“Did you dig a hole in the ground and steal the money?”
“For now, I’m looking at it that way.”
“Oh, that’s it.”
I found what seemed to be a wire connected to the bottom plate and showed it to the police.
It was cut off in the middle, but it remained without burning.
As the police looked bewildered, Kim Jeong-tae eventually returned with a piece of burnt debris.
“It’s a small oxygen tank.”
“Did you leave it in case it wouldn’t burn properly because it lacked oxygen? You’re good at it.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“So, the criminals dug in, stole stuff, and set up booby traps.”
In fact, there was a similar bank robbery in Germany in 2013.
The difference is that these guys not only burned the tunnels to destroy evidence, but also installed booby traps to delay detection as much as possible.
It was probably a structure in which the wire was connected to the ignition device and activated as soon as the bottom plate was lifted.
I already liked these guys.
“You’re so professional. Jeongtae, what about on the other side of the tunnel?”
“It was blocked.”
“I buried him after he finished his errands. To buy a little more time.”
“No, that’s ridiculous. Do you know how many large buildings there are around here? There’s a sewer system and even a road.”
The person in charge of the police questioned my opinion, but since the tunnel had already been discovered, there was no credibility.
Of course, it was not surprising that he was surprised.
It certainly seemed absurd that this level of construction was carried out in an underground space in the middle of Jung-gu, Seoul.
“It’s easy to use the Hunter ability. The clairvoyance ability is very common among search-type hunters. There is also Hunter equipment that is helpful there.”
The police seemed to want to trip more, but stopped after seeing Yeriel.
I asked a question after seeing that one of the surveillance cameras inside was strangely bent.
“What about that camera?”
“It appears to have been broken during the break-in.”
“Were there any alarms?”
“Yes. There was nothing wrong with the camera screen…”
That, too, is possible if you use your Hunter abilities.
I also learned while operating the oracle, but even if the person in question has basic hacking knowledge, the level of difficulty goes down.
In this case, even a C-rank would be enough.
It wouldn’t have been too difficult to disable the safe’s other alarms.
Of course, it is by no means the end of that level.
This kind of theft boasts one of the most difficult Hunter crimes we’ve dealt with.
“How much is the damage?”
“Employees say at least 20 billion. It’s still being counted, so it may increase…”
“Hunter criminals are enough to share.”
Even the police had given up halfway.
In this day and age, committing a crime like this without any Hunter skills is nonsense.
Meanwhile, the police outside found out the starting point of the tunnel.
It seems that the burial of the tunnel was not complete.
“I checked the starting point of the tunnel.
“Are you sure?”
“I’m still checking, but there’s smoke coming out of there as well. It’s 400 meters away.”
“It’s not some kind of North Korean army, it’s a 400-meter tunnel…”
Digging with the Hunter ability is much easier.
Earth-friendly abilities, summoned animals… Even those with physical enhancement abilities.
Digging a tunnel and disabling the alarm system itself is not very difficult.
“Can you really catch this? Criminals think it’s a hunter, so it’s so helpless…”
“That’s what we do.”
After answering the police, I turned to Lee Seo-woo and Seo Ji-yu.
The two operators answered my sudden question almost simultaneously.
“Seo-woo, Ji-yu. What is the first thing to consider in a case like this?”
“That’s… The suspect’s criminal capacity.”
“Criminal ability.”
Yes.
Originally, the motive is investigated, but such team-level crimes are usually aimed at money.
I nodded my head, satisfied with the two people’s learning attitude.
“Hunters who can sell 400 meters of grit without getting caught are all too common. Hunters who can disable a bank’s electronic security system are not uncommon. How about a Hunter there?”
“Oh, that must be rare.”
“Right?”
As a result of checking with the Oracle, it is said that there was no sign of a construction truck moving near the tunnel.
If that kind of thing came in and out often, it would have been caught by the merchants around you.
I don’t know if it’s the day of the crime. It is realistically difficult to remain undetected throughout construction.
This is a crime that can only be done with very rare spatial or gravitational abilities.
“But there aren’t very few of them either… It must be difficult to catch the culprit in time.”
“Is that so?”
Yeriel tilts her head beside me.
I nodded my head with a slight embarrassment.
“Golden time, no matter how long it is, is until midnight. It is difficult to investigate the alibi of all the suspects within that period. No matter how space and gravity systems are at least, there must be more than 10 people in Korea .”
“Then, can’t we ask for cooperation from each guild?”
“No, it’s not like the answer comes right away when you ask for cooperation…”
When I get a little frustrated, Yeriel still doesn’t understand.
Then she picked up her smartphone, scribbled down a few short words on her own, and put it down again.
I wondered, I asked her.
“What did you just do?”
“A request for cooperation.”
“Yes?”
“Since I made a direct request in my name, wouldn’t you cooperate if you want to continue running the guild in Korea?”
Tiriling, Tiriling!
After a while
Yeriel’s smartphone started crying like crazy.
She entrusted the response to Blanche and leisurely waited for the results.
