Chapter 18 – How to Be an Adventurer (1)
“Should I go to another city? I’m starting to get used to working at a bar…”
When they were almost at the wagon, Kara woke up and said, Kara has no memory of last night. I thought she might have a weakness for sleep, but I never thought it would be that much.
“Huh. I have to go.”
“Then why do you have to go?”
“It’s a secret.”
Tousled Kara’s hair puffing out her cheeks, and walked over to the carriage owner.
“Are you going to ride?”
“How much does it cost to go to Kalita?”
“As far as Kalita goes… 15 coppers will do.”
I handed over 15 coppers to the wagon owner.
“The departure will follow when the top goes out. It’s because it’s safe. If you have something to do, go quickly and come.”
I told Sister Seris to wait in the carriage and headed for the guard barracks. It was to find Gedrick’s sword that he had entrusted to him when he entered the city.
To wear a sword longer than a dagger in the city, you had to pay a separate tax, so you had no choice but to leave it.
“Are you sure you are out of town? Just know that carrying a sword without paying taxes is a felony.”
Received a stern warning from the guards and came out with a sword.
“Brother, come quickly. The upper house will be leaving soon.”
The owner of the carriage beckoned us to come quickly. I jumped and got into the carriage.
After a while the carriage started.
* * *
“Just give me 5 coppers.”
“No. Then I’m so sorry. Please accept this.”
Seris handed over 10 coppers for the carriage. She thought of Seris’ financial situation, so she tried to get a little, but she didn’t like that. She was so persistent that she just accepted it.
“You have arrived. Come down.”
We got off the wagon.
After traveling for a day and several hours, they arrived in Kalita.
“Ugh…”
Seris stroked her ass. The wagon seats were hard, and the roads were off-road, not modern paved roads, so my butt hurt.
“Eww…?”
While stroking her butt, she looked at me and froze in shock. Situation between me and her. I said one word to avoid being awkward.
“Are you okay. I was like that at first too.”
“…Yes.”
She slipped her hands down her hips and bowed her head. I couldn’t see her face because of the fabric, but I had no idea what kind of face it would be.
Embarrassed, I turned my gaze to Kara. She was admiring the walls of Kalita.
“Brother, are the walls higher than the previous city?”
“Because it is a bigger city.”
As I have heard, the owner of Kalita has a higher rank than the owner of Bahran and has a vast territory. So, of course, Kalita is bigger than Bahran.
“First of all, we are tired from the carriage today, so let’s take a break.”
We went straight to the inn. Kara regretted not being able to see the city, but she agreed when she saw Seris’ tired expression.
After searching the streets and entering a cheap inn, we ordered a light meal.
“Tomorrow, let’s go register for the adventurer’s guild.”
He said while dipping bread into soup. Seris and Kara widened their eyes. I understand. Because it’s a bit sudden.
However, there was something I felt desperately after fighting Alvis.
‘I was too relaxed.’
Intoxicated with new possibilities and the sweetness of the realm of wish, he acted leisurely.
It wasn’t bad in the end, but you never know when something will happen. Maybe someone much stronger than Alvis will come against me.
In preparation for that time, we must become stronger as soon as possible. There is no time to argue about Kara’s independence.
“Really? Uh… But I don’t have any money…”
“I will lend you. It’s okay because it’s not my backing.”
“Huh..? Is it?”
Kara made a puzzled expression.
“Yoosung doesn’t have to go that far. I’ll lend it to Kara.”
Seris waved her hand. As expected, it was a burden to her. I have a nice smile.
“No, it’s not giving, it’s lending, so what? Kara will succeed and pay it off. Yes?”
“Of course!”
Kara answered confidently. Cerris looked at Kara with dazed eyes.
* * *
After the meal, the Celis sisters and Yuseong decided to go up to their respective rooms and take a break. Seris and Kara occupied one room, and Yooseong occupied the next room.
“Ceris, will you follow me for a second? I have something to tell you.”
Meteor summoned Seris separately. Seris was puzzled and she followed the meteor into his room.
Seris and Yuseong sat side by side on the bed.
“What are you talking about?”
Seris asked a little nervously. There is a serious atmosphere about Yoosung who is sitting on her bed, and there is only her and Yoosung in her room. It was hard for her not to be nervous.
Yoosung opened his mouth. Celis gulped her saliva and waited for his answer.
“Are you thinking of being an adventurer?”
“…Yes?”
Mac has completely gone.
Seeing Seris’ expression, Yuseong tilted her head.
“Why are you looking so weak?”
“I thought Yoosung was talking about something important…”
“Are you nervous?”
“Honestly, I did a little bit.”
“What did you think I would say?”
“…Yes?”
‘So I was nervous knowing what Yooseong would say?’
Seris, she didn’t even come to mind as herself. Yuseong continued her words as she smiled as she looked at her parents.
“So what about my story? Do you want to join us as an adventurer?”
Celis hesitated, then she said softly.
“…Can I do it well?”
“Huh?”
“…Why is Yoosung surprised?”
“No, I knew you would say no and prepared words to convince you. But your reaction doesn’t seem to be as reluctant as I thought. Is it because of Kara?”
“…Yes.”
Seris nodded her head. That wasn’t all, but he didn’t have to say it.
Yuseong stared at her blankly. When she felt that Seris was a bit burdensome, Yoosung smiled and said,
“Yeah, I get it. And earlier, I asked if you think you can do well, right? I think you will do well That’s why I suggested it.”
“Is that so?”
When Seris is dubious, Yooseong decides to build her confidence with her compliments.
“Huh. Above all, are you very strong? For an adventurer, that’s a huge advantage.”
“Is that so…?”
Yooseong continued her praise. Cerys’s confidence began to fill quickly, and later he waved her hand, covering the corners of her mouth as she rose.
“Then are you going to register as an adventurer tomorrow?”
“Yes. Okay.”
Seris parted with Yoosung with her bright smile. She went into her room and took off the cloth that was covering her face.
Along with her sense of openness, I remembered the compliments Yooseong had given me earlier. The corners of Seris’ lips kept rising.
“Whoops…”
“Why are you laughing all of a sudden?”
“Oops! It’s a surprise. What if Kara suddenly approaches? You were surprised.”
Seris bruised Kara. But Kara glared at Cerris with her eyes narrowed.
“What the hell did you talk about with your brother, so you look like that?”
“I didn’t talk much.”
“Really? Then can you tell me what you were talking about?”
Seris was a little offended by Kara’s suspicious attitude, but she told me about the conversation she had with Yuseong.
Hearing her story, Kara widened her eyes.
“You think your sister will be an adventurer too? She said she never did before.”
“I am worried about you. Are you happy too? I got to do it with my sister.”
“Yeah… I’m glad.”
Kara said with a confused face. Seeing her face, Ceris narrowed her brows.
“What’s the matter? Aren’t you Kara the one who asked unnie to go on an adventure together?”
“Because I didn’t really know what to do…”
Kara murmured softly. Cerys asked her nails, and Kara shook her head.
“No. Unnie, I’m tired, so I’m going to sleep.”
“Kara? You said you wanted to see the city before?”
“That was before. Not now.”
Kara lay down on the bed and closed her eyes. Celis shook it, but she didn’t respond.
Ceris glared at Kara and she lay down next to her.
She hugged Kara tightly.
“Oh, sister, don’t do that. Stuffy.”
“No. I will.”
“Oh, my real sister!”
“Joy!”
* * *
The next morning, I headed to the adventurer’s guild with Sister Seris. It was a city I was unfamiliar with, so I managed to arrive by asking passers-by for directions.
Kalita’s adventurer’s guild was bigger than Bahran’s. I dragged the two who wanted to admire again and went inside.
“What are you doing?”
A receptionist dressed exactly like the receptionist I saw at Bahran greeted us at the reception desk.
When I said I had come to register as an adventurer, she handed over three documents.
“Is it okay not to pay 3 silver?”
“Three silver?”
“Bahran says you have to pay 3 silver to register.”
“Ah.”
The receptionist smiled.
“Have you ever been to a guild in another city?”
“Yes. It was Bahran.”
“Did you say that on the other side? That’s because no one can accept it. It’s a minimum ID, something like that.”
“Uh? How did your sister know that?”
Kara said curiously. The receptionist replied in a sneering voice.
“It is a feature of the branch without an adventure team. Since there is no adventure team, the reliability is low, and I am struggling to raise that trust somehow, but how easy is that? I assure you, it’s all meaningless bullshit.”
“Adventure team? What is your sister’s adventure team?”
At Kara’s question, the receptionist smiled as if he had waited.
“The Adventure Corps is an adventurer’s group formed by gold-rated or higher adventurers. Usually, once created, it is systematically operated, so there is a big difference between a guild with an adventure group and a guild without it.”
After that, the receptionist’s words continued.
That Kalita also has an adventure squad, and because of that, competition for employment in the guild is strong, and that she barely managed to get there…
After all, she was proud of herself.
Pretending to give a rough answer, I read the documents handed over.
– Even if an adventurer dies while carrying out the quest, the guild is not responsible.
– The guild deducts 20% of the commission from the amount presented by the client.
Etc., Some reasonable content was written.
However, while reading through the documents, I came across an intrusive phrase.
-If there is an external threat to the city, it can be mobilized by the lord.
Isn’t this saying that it could be used for the lord’s personal gain?
I showed the receptionist who was chatting with Sister Seris the phrase I had just read and asked.
“Can you read?”
“Yes? Ah yes. I know how to read.”
“Really? Then, our guild is recruiting clerks. How about applying there? It is much more stable than the average adventurer.”
The receptionist clapped her hands and made her fuss.
“It’s okay. I know how to read, but I can’t write.”
“You know how to read, but you can’t write..?”
The receptionist looked bewildered.
Well, it’s kind of weird when I think about it. A person who can read doesn’t know how to write.
But when I wrote it, it became just Korean, so people couldn’t recognize it.
“Are you okay. If you know how to read, it won’t be long before you learn how to write. Then…”
Even if I want to learn it, I can’t because the writing seems to be all in Korean.
“Well, more than that, what I asked…”
“Oh, look at my mind. Was this a phrase? Let’s see…”
The receptionist meticulously read the phrase I pointed to. And he smiled knowingly.
“Certainly this part is yours… Your name by any chance?”
“This is Han Yuseong.”
“Han Yoo-seong is something to be concerned about. Actually, there are things like that. But at least in Kalita you don’t have to worry about that.”
“What’s wrong?”
“As I said before, our guild has an adventure team.”
The receptionist explained in a voice full of pride.
“The adventure team not only manages their adventurers, but also protests against the lord’s unreasonable demands.”
“Is that possible? What do adventurers protest against nobles?”
“If you’re an ordinary adventurer, that sounds absurd. However, the story is different when it comes to gold rank. No matter how noble you are, you can’t treat gold-level adventurers carelessly.”
“Oh…”
That was the first time I’d heard of it. Is it because there was no gold grade in Bahran?
I turned to Seris.
‘It means that you have to be gold grade to take off the cloth on that face.’
I laughed out loud at the unrealistic story. It’s a goal I should reach someday, but it felt so far away.
It seems that the day when Celis reveals her bare face to the world is still far away.
“So don’t worry, just sign it!”
The receptionist spoke cheerfully. But none of us moved a hand. The receptionist was flustered and looked at us alternately.
“I don’t know how to write our article.”
“Ah.”
The receptionist had an epiphany.
