Chapter 31 – 8. Assessment. (One)
The group made it out of the canyon on the seventh evening. Among those who were thrilled to have survived, there were even those who buried their heads in the dirt and showered them with kisses.
There were quite a few people who fell victim to the monster’s attack, but most of them survived safely. It was thanks to Kalim-Mercenary Corps killing most of the Demonic Beasts in the front row, and Allen-Mercenary Corps dealing with most of the Black Magicians who became Demonic Beasts.
Actually, the attack of the enemy wasn’t that powerful, but the problem was that the curse that continued to overlap for several days was too tight on the body. Because my body and mind were devastated, it was a big reason that I couldn’t demonstrate even half of my skills.
Anyway, they solved the incident in the canyon, and got out without much trouble. Allen had enough of it.
“Dead man?”
“I can die here.”
When Big Frank raised his hand and said that, everyone split. Now the curse is gone, which means I can afford to joke around.
“None. Good job everyone. Really.”
“Mercenaries, well, all of them suck, but this one was really the worst. Damn, that’s a real bitch. It’s the first time in my life that I didn’t want to fuck.”
For some reason, everyone nodded their heads in agreement without muttering. Speaking of big Frank’s horse, even a muscular woman who hates it.
The curse was the worst. Even Allen was contemplating whether he should promote the title of witch doctor to witch doctor now.
To be honest, in the game, I just ignored whether the character was [Confused] Or [Weakened], Rolled it until it didn’t die, and then came back to the city to recover, but it turned out that in reality, that was really fucking hard. He regretted his ignorance back in the day, when he was in a [Confusion] State and cursed at him, saying, “Fuck you, fuck me” When an attack misses. … There was a reason.
“Don’t spare today and eat. It’s a city just a little further away. … Still, leave some for breakfast tomorrow.”
The crew took out almost all of the emergency rations. After dinner, they gathered around the campfire.
Allen went a short distance from the camp and perched on a flat rock, watching the increasingly gloomy sky. Maybe it’s because I went through a lot of hardships, but today, I felt especially bad about it.
… Still, I’ve put an eye stamp on Kalim Danju, so it’ll be helpful later in some way.
In [Guild Master], When the mercenary business entered the middle stage, there was a limit to recruiting talent only by pure excavation. If so, it would be inevitable to bring proven talent from other mercenaries, but if the mercenaries were rivals or the relationship was not smooth, it was inevitably difficult to bring the desired mercenary. So, it is best to maintain a good relationship to facilitate negotiations.
Of course, it doesn’t make sense to maintain good relations with all the mercenaries, but unless it’s a crazy concept, it’s better not to make enemies.
Just when Allen was sighing lightly and thinking about this and that, someone sneaked up next to him. When I turned my head to see who it was, the first thing I noticed was the lewd breasts. It was a sucker.
“Elena… , What brings you here… ?”
“Wait, may I sit down?”
“Uh, then.”
Elena sat down next to Allen Danju. Even though they were the same crew, their words and actions were definitely different from other mercenaries. … Nobles are nobility.
Even after she sat down next to her, she paused in conversation for a while.
“… Thank you.”
“What?”
“Thank you for helping me.”
“Help. You helped me I have to say thank you.”
The sucker shook his head slightly.
“No. Danju, you made me come to my senses. … To be honest, I was very scared at the time. His hands and feet were shaking, and he couldn’t do anything. If I had stayed there, I would have been attacked by a monster.”
“… It didn’t seem to me You overcame it much better than I thought. To the extent that I am grateful.”
“Is that so….”
She glanced sideways at his profile. … She still couldn’t forget his powerful voice from that time in her mind.
– Don’t be scared. The moment you step back because you’re scared, it’s over. Okay? You have to keep your mind to the end. I’ll be by your side Because I will be by your side until the end!!
Danju had never said anything empty before. He promised to be by my side, and he kept that promise.
He was by her side, even when her monstrous fury came running.
Danju was a brave man. He’s also capable, brilliant, and…. As Elena looked at him, she was realizing what kind of position she was in.
… It was cool. It was the first time she felt that people were cool.
“Did you do magic training in your spare time while you were busy? Still, I made it and shot it skillfully. I admired it then. I know why you are a wizard wizard. … I don’t know if this is eating high-quality personnel for free.”
“I don’t eat anything. I am learning a lot from you. Really. You can’t learn with money.”
“It looks like you’re putting too much gold on my face.”
“No. Really… !”
“Done. Let’s stop. … And teasing us over there, now.”
“… Yes?”
Allen pointed with her chin at the crew huddled around the campfire. The sucker’s gaze followed that direction.
Ah.
It wasn’t enough that the crew’s eyes were all focused in this direction, and they were making strange noises and gesturing. Big Frank even got up and pretended to fuck.
– The wagon is empty, so you can use it there.
– Everyone went to bed, so don’t scream too much.
Embarrassed, the sucker master jumped up, nodded to Danju, and quickly returned to his place.
… Cute
Seeing that he is still not immune to practical jokes, he seems to have an innate naivety. Of course, that innocence will one day fade away.
After the sunset completely disappeared, Allen got up from her seat and patted her dusty buttocks.
As Danju lay down on the rug spread out by the crew, Big Frank giggled and said,
“Did you go crazy?”
“Well, our Danju is cool. If I were a woman, I would have gone too far.”
“… Hey, aren’t you guys sleeping? If you’re bored, shall we go back to the canyon?”
Then the crew laughed sinisterly and lay down on their seats. Only Aiden, the first watchman, sat back near the fire.
Stinging, a mysterious bug cried nearby. A muscular woman, a young bug—-, picked up a nearby stone and tossed it at the source of the sound. Then the sound stopped for a moment, and then it started crying again.
Allen closed her eyes, making the squealing sound a lullaby. Her mind was much more at ease now that she was out of the canyon.
Above the faint snoring, the cool night air calmed down lightly.
· · ·
The next day.
The group rose early in the morning and ran along the paved stone road again.
And by the time the sun rose above my head, I finally began to see the outer walls of the city in the distance. A big city that can be called the central region.
The Iron Fortress, Karlstad—-.
The mountain range stretching to the left and right was connected to the walls of the city, and it was a city that had to be passed through in order to reach the capital of the empire.
In the long history of hundreds of years, this iron fortress has only been breached once. In fact, rather than being pierced, it was opened voluntarily, so strictly speaking, it was a place that had never been captured in history. It’s a fortress built by the empire with decades of hard work and dedication, so it’s a matter of course.
Since most of the logistics from the entire east to the central region led this way, the scale was much larger than that of Laplace, a large city that had been passed by before.
Whether it’s scenery, history, or entertainment, it was a place where everything flourished, so it proudly occupied a place among the five largest cities on the continent.
… It smells a little human now.
As it is a place where a lot of people gather, of course, various businesses also prospered. Not to mention the mercenary business.
After a long time had passed since it was visible, the group finally arrived at the gates of Karlstadt.
Already at the checkpoint, there was a crowd of people waiting. However, when Kalim Danzu took out the certificate he had received from the Duke of Winterhorn, the head of the checkpoint allowed passage without delay.
With this, the mission of the Kalim-Mercenary Corps was over. Now that we have brought the group safely to this place, we should spend a day or two resting here before returning to the big city, Laplaus.
Kalim Danju called Allen Danju before parting with the group. Just him alone
“Did you call?”
“You’ve worked hard all this time.”
“It was nothing.”
“This is also meant to be, but it’s a bit regretful to just let it go. He even got a lot of help from you.”
“It’s okay. It wasn’t something I did to get something in return.”
“If it’s burdensome, just think of it as a gift from me.”
Kalim Danju took an envelope from his bosom and handed it to Allen Danju. He received it politely.
“If you happen to go to Vermandois, go find Viola-Mercenary Corps at the Guild House and give this to them. If you say you came with my introduction, you will be welcomed.”
Viola-Mercenaries—!
The name was huge enough to open Allen’s eyes. I was so surprised that I stuttered a little to the end.
“A, thank you.”
… Allen thought to himself that this inspiration must have seen him more favorably than he expected.
“Then, bye bye.”
“Goodbye, Lord Dan.”
The chariot carrying Kalim Danju soon departed far along the main road. Allen glanced down briefly at the envelope in his hand as he turned and headed back to the men.
Viola – Mercenaries.
One of the top 10 mercenaries on the continent.
Kalim arranged a meeting with Allen.
