Chapter 13 – Older Sister (Ha Seo-Woo) – The Sister Who Sucks Up To Anything
* Older Sister (Ha Seo-woo) – The Sister Who Sucks Up to Anything (1)
Lee Jun-seo, completely unaware of the ominous conversations happening at home, was sprawled out, relaxed, by the time the movie ended. He was at a shaved ice chain, laughing and chatting with his friends about the movie. They were exhausted from watching three movies, but their mouths wouldn’t stop, and only after getting a warning from the store did they finally lift their heavy butts and move from place to place, continuing their movie discussions.
Shaved ice place, tteokbokki restaurant, a large arcade, and finally, a coffee shop. This place was quiet because there weren’t many people, and since there was no one upstairs either, they could talk without worrying about anyone’s eyes on them. They had already talked about the first and second movies elsewhere, so now they were laughing and sharing their thoughts on the third movie they had seen. It was a noisy conversation that might have made someone frown, but no one interrupted them until their story was over.
After their gluttonous and vulgar chatter, they looked outside to see that evening was approaching. The sun hadn’t set yet, but it was the time when it would start to get dark. Some received calls and headed to the subway, while others left for a PC bang. Some stayed longer, but compared to the group of guys who had first gathered, their numbers had dwindled, and it was inevitable that everyone was exhausted and their talkativeness was waning.
Usually, everyone would disperse around this time, but they all seemed to have no intention of leaving, and while they were wondering what topic to continue talking about, one friend, who knows who came up with it, looked at Jun-seo and spoke…
“Hey, but… I don’t know if I should ask this… are you doing okay these days…?”
“What the hell are you talking about out of the blue?”
“You know, your father passed away, right? Even though you always sang about how much you hated him, he was still family by blood, so I was wondering if you sent him off okay.”
“Dude, you’re asking weird stuff out of nowhere.”
Jun-seo blinked and laughed, easing the atmosphere among his friends. It went from an atmosphere of wondering if they should ask this to one of, “Yeah, I guess not.”
“Can’t you tell by the fact that I didn’t invite you guys? I didn’t even shed a tear at the end. No relatives came either, so we just had a simple memorial and sent him off.”
“Really?”
“Looks like you guys didn’t have a good relationship until the end?”
“If we had a good relationship, I wouldn’t have run away from home, going from your place to your place, you idiots. But hey, who came to pick me up? My stepmother and my sisters, right? Do you think I’d shed a single tear for that man even if I cried my eyes out over my new family?”
“Well, yeah…”
Even though Jun-seo spoke those words in a violent tone, none of the guys took his father’s side. They were Jun-seo’s close friends, after all, so they knew his situation and had even actively helped him run away before, so it was nothing new. They had brought up Jun-seo’s father this time to help him if anything was wrong, but it turned out to be unnecessary.
“You know what I’m going to say. So don’t talk about my father. Why ruin the mood after having fun? If you’re going to ask something, ask about my stepmother or my sisters instead.”
“Dude, you must be doing well? To be talking like that?”
“They’re such good people. You guys saw them once too.”
“They were so pretty.”
“For real.”
“They seemed to be mixed race?”
“Why do you guys always jump to that when my family is mentioned?”
“Can’t we compliment them?”
Jun-seo initially seemed angry, but after laughing, he gave a thumbs up and said, “I admit it!” and his friends followed suit, accepting the meme. No matter how old they got, guys were still kids. They didn’t go as far as saying, “I want to suck those tits!” while staring at his stepmother’s chest like they did in middle school, but their true feelings were all the same.
“Your life is so twisted. Your blood family is all trash, and your non-blood family is so good to you.”
“I want to make a sex joke, but I’ll hold back.”
“Real.”
“You guys have all become adults.”
Whether they had become adults or just learned to hide their true nature, laughter bloomed among the guys who still couldn’t shake off their childishness. Since Jun-seo, the center of that family, didn’t seem uncomfortable at all, they felt like they could ask more.
“But is it okay living with your sisters? I have a sister too, but her personality is awful, so we have a terrible relationship. But you have three of them? It must be so uncomfortable.”
“Are you counting my stepmother as a sister?”
“She’s only five years older than you, right?”
“What is this, a Hitomi setting?”
“I always think that reality is more fucked up. Even the most messed up dramas and mangas are created by people’s imaginations, but your environment is real. If it were me, I wouldn’t be able to live surrounded by three women.”
“It’s surprisingly livable, so don’t worry about it, you idiots. You guys used to say you were turned on by my family instead of worrying about me.”
“We think you’re hot because we think of you as someone else, but you live with them.”
“Are you turned on?”
“If it were me, I’d be turned on, but I’d feel like shit.”
“You crazy bastards.”
Everyone, including Jun-seo, laughed with smiles on their faces. Jun-seo didn’t answer, pretending not to hear the question, and subtly changed the subject. What he was really thinking was obvious.
‘How can I say that I fucked my stepmother? Even if I want to brag, I can’t tell them. These guys have always been there for me, even when I was badmouthing my father, so they’d be shocked if they knew I did the same thing as that trash. My friend is a close relative who fucked his father’s young new wife? Some might laugh it off, but some would be serious… If I’m not careful…’
If he wasn’t careful, it wouldn’t end with just being cursed at, Jun-seo thought, being careful with his words.
Instead, he wanted to brag about his beloved family, so he was about to take out his phone to show them pictures.
‘Huh?’
Vibration, vibration, vibration. A call came in. It was saved as “My Lovely One and Only Sister☆,” which was obviously Seo-woo having forced her number and profile into Jun-seo’s phone.
“Looks like you’re close with your sister.”
“She’s very playful.”
His friend teased him after seeing the saved number, but Jun-seo’s reaction was dry. This wasn’t something to brag about, but something to be embarrassed about. If his friends got a hold of his weakness, they would tease him for days, so it wasn’t a welcome call.
“Just a sec, I need to take this…”
“Just answer it here.”
“I’m too lazy to move.”
‘Tsk… These bastards…’
Of all the places, he was sitting on the inside, so he couldn’t get out unless his friends moved. It would be suspicious to go far away to take a call. Fortunately, it wasn’t his stepmother calling, but his sister, so he didn’t think any sexually suggestive words would be exchanged, which was a relief for Jun-seo.
“Aren’t you going to answer it?”
“I will… Ahem, hello? Sis?”
“Oh, hello? Jun-seo? Where are you~?”
The two started their call, and the guys’ mouths shut. Normally, they wouldn’t eavesdrop on anyone’s calls, but Jun-seo’s case was a bit different. At first, they had joked around with sex jokes about Jun-seo’s new family, but now they had serious expressions. They were seriously worried that their close friend might not have a good relationship with his new family.
“I’m still near the movie theater. But why all of a sudden? I told Mom I’d be late today, didn’t she tell you?”
“Of course, she did! You’re so mean?!”
“What are you talking about out of the blue?”
“You left your sister behind and went to have fun by yourself?! I wanted to see the toy story too! You bad boy! I’ve been telling you about it coming out since last month! I was the one who told you about the new release, so why did you go with your friends! Why are you so clueless?!”
“Why are you yelling at me about that?!”
“Why am I yelling? You should have gone to see it with your sister! You went to see it by yourself without even saying anything! If you had told me, I would have gone with you!”
“I didn’t tell you on purpose because you’d follow me!”
“Huh? Why?!”
“Why would you come when I’m hanging out with my friends?! Are you crazy?!”
“You’re not going to talk to your friends during the movie! You can just leave your sister after the movie! And your sister can buy popcorn and cola for your friends! You idiot!”
“Buy what?! You busybody?!”
The guys chuckled at the sister’s conversation over the phone. It seemed they were relieved that they weren’t on bad terms. Rather, they seemed too close, making it awkward for the listeners. For a sister to casually join her younger brother’s friends and offer to buy them popcorn and cola, it felt like she was a guardian.
“What are you laughing at? You bastards.”
“Just because?”
“Finish your call.”
“Tsk…”
Jun-seo felt an indescribable embarrassment and put the phone back to his ear. Seo-woo on the other end continued to complain, and when she finally calmed down, she started asking for Jun-seo’s location.
“So where are you now?!”
“I said I’m near the movie theater! I’m going back soon, so wait a bit! I’ll do everything you want when I get there, so hang up…”
“Wait for what! Where near the movie theater?!”
“The coffee shop in the alley across the street. The second floor. But why?”
“I’m coming now.”
“What? What do you mean you’re coming? Where?”
“I was already near the movie theater?! I’ll pick you up and we can go play! I already got permission from my sister!”
“What the hell are you talking about… Si…?”
The friends who were listening to the call laughed loudly and looked out the window, and Jun-seo followed suit. A woman was slowly walking down the alley leading to the coffee shop. As if to show off, she looked at the second-floor window, held her phone to one ear, and waved her hand, a tall beauty.
“Sis… you’re really something…”
“Shut up, let’s drink! Hehe!”
She smiled like a mischievous child and entered the coffee shop, and then hung up the phone.
“Fuck…”
Immediately after, Jun-seo’s forehead slammed onto the table.
His friends patted his back and laughed, telling him to go play with his sister.
They weren’t bad friends, but he couldn’t avoid being teased for a while.
