Chapter 20 – 1. The Night of the Covenant (Complete)
Seven candles burned in the dark.
In the center of the room illuminated by soft lighting, Lucienne, a woman praised as the winter seat of the north, was crossing her arms. She placed a stack of her cards on the round table, stared at them, tilted her head, and flipped them over one by one with her completely unsure face.
Originally, the truth that the occultist seeks is not clear and vague. However, even taking that into account, the results of the divinations repeated over the course of several days were truly incomprehensible.
“So you just came?”
Seventy-one and two tarot cards unfolded. The first card drawn was a demon known to control fate. The location is a reversed past, indicating that someone who had to spend a miserable time in his farmhouse escaped that life and headed for the future.
“Oh, I couldn’t help it.”
The second card was drawn was a demon said to control time. The location meant that the law of causality, which should have been applied fairly to all things, was shed its skin as an absolute law with some exception.
“If the young lady had seen the sight, she would have thought the same.”
“You said you had a prostitute?”
“I don’t know. It is certain that she was a shallow woman anyway.”
Putting down her third card, Lucienne turned her head to her side her. Sitting on her bed, she glanced at Françoise for a moment, confused. Winter Seok’s Bijou, who was her exclusive maid of honor by day and same-sex lover by night, unfortunately looked very confused.
“Is it a familiar face?”
“It can’t be!”
It seemed like it was because he had witnessed an unexpectedly shocking sight when he was sent as a messenger.
“It’s not like we’re from the territory. Even in front of my eyes, he was clinging to his things without a hint of shame.”
“What are you making a fuss about? The other day, you were stuck between my crotch and I didn’t know you would fall off. In terms of vulnerability, it’s as good as our Bijou…”
“Miss!”
Françoise groaned. It was a bit like her now. Lucienne chuckled as she reached for her deck of cards again. She did n’t forget that she was beaten up after she spit out her curiosity that came to her needlessly.
“But was that whore pretty?”
“I’m really mad!”
“Okay okay.”
Even if it looked like this, Winter Stone’s exclusive handmade was quite jealous. So it was better, though. In her daily life her, she often nags and annoys her, but when she lays her on her bed, she becomes obedient.
“By the way, why did the driver suddenly ask me to call him in the middle of the night?”
“I had something to ask you to check.”
“Usually, if you call me at a time like this, you’d take it as something strange.”
“Well, if you’re just an ordinary bastard, that’s probably it.”
However, Romuald, a knight and descendant of the central noble family Dior, was by no means such a troublemaker. It was proof that he was different from such goofballs, from the fact that he responded calmly without batting an eye even though he was sarcastic and sarcastic in person.
“Every mystic has his or her own mystery. In my case, is it the sixth sense? In fact, fortune-telling with the power of tools or constellations is nothing more than a process of making sure of such a sixth sense.”
“Isn’t the lady a wizard specializing in tarot?”
“In the end, even magic is only part of the mystery. And the so-called orthodox wizards don’t really like occultists like us. It’s not like the word that openly persecutes you for being a witch goes up and down.”
The Tarot is just a tool. The stars were just there from the beginning. The true mystery is when science shines from the moment when it does not give up its faith even in the face of such questionable existence.
“I felt a familiar sense of déjà vu for that lowly knight.”
I don’t know why I felt that way. But one thing is for sure, it was never something to be overlooked. Lucienne Lemoant was able to guess many things from the fleeting conversation dotted with selling and the attitude she showed at first glance.
“It was said that there was a secret hidden. But it wasn’t easy for her to figure out what it was. That’s why I decided to write this deck.”
“The devil’s card…”
“Do you recognize me?”
“It’s something you don’t use often because the cost is high.”
“Right, this cleverly blends truth and lies.”
Lucienne continued her as she brushed her hair behind her. As a result of repeating her prophecies for several days at a distance, she learned several facts.
“Let’s look at her prophecy about Kovin first.”
Lucienne, who picked up three cards from her round table with her slender hands, soon turned them over. Surprisingly, the images that appeared on the flipped cards were demons that govern greed, betrayal, and ruin, respectively.
“This, obviously…”
“I can’t find any meaning. It is an indication that the one who cannot control his desire will betray us and destroy us.”
Françoise nodded. As she said, the prophecies about Corbin were relatively easy to understand.
“Next is Marbo.”
There were four cards drawn as the fate of Baron Marbo. It was normal until it came with three cards like Kobin, but the card with only a collapsed tower drawn on it was especially outstanding.
“The collapsed tower means that as a wizard, the achievements he has made throughout his life his will be undone. Even the size is insignificant, so there are no fragment cards that should have come with it. It is the price to pay for being distracted by useless things while leaving the tower that should have been built with great care.”
“Have you been punished for neglecting your achievements as a wizard and chasing personal power?”
“Yes, the same goes for the other barons.”
Lucienne drew several of her cards and turned them over. She was the card that belonged to the other three barons after Corbin and Marbeau. The contents were not much different from those of the previous two, but a picture with only the background was added as a shared card.
“Now, look.”
“Wow, what a surprise…”
It meant the narrow sky card, those who only stared blankly with a limited field of view. In reality, as far as the three barons were concerned, they didn’t have a significant role to play compared to Corbin or Marbo.
Even so, it was not that he could forgive the crime of participating in the overthrow of the territory.
“The devil’s card has great power. They know what the truth is But how you tell us that is different each time.”
Lucienne picked up all the cards from the center of her round table and held them up. Exactly seventy and two were used in this prophecy.
Sometimes adding, sometimes sharing.
That’s how she tried to find out about Rom Dior, the knight her sixth sense had been keeping an eye on.
“Bijou, shall we draw your card this time?”
“Me?”
Françoise asked, startedled. It was a fact that only I knew, even here in the manor, that the Winter Stone of the North, the Lady of the Marquis, was a mystic with secret and mysterious powers. She had never received her prophecies from her from her or borrowed her mystical powers from her.
“I don’t really care…”
“If you don’t like it, don’t.”
“You didn’t know when to do the laundry, so you ignored it when I asked to see if it would rain tomorrow.”
“Still, the name is heavenly, but you can’t reveal it just for that reason…”
She couldn’t help but be surprised. As much as I wondered if there had been a change of heart.
“Anyway, you don’t look like a lady.”
“I just wanted to let people know how absurd that is.”
“What…?”
Lucienne said, let’s talk about the details after looking at the cards, and she quickly flipped through five cards.
“Take a look.”
The first is affection, the second is friendship, and the third is obsession.
“As you can see, these are the feelings you feel for me.”
All positions were straight and straight. Except for the fourth card, the question.
“This question mark can be interpreted in many ways. But it would be more correct to say that it usually refers to your confusion about what you saw when you went to see the article, or your curiosity or concern about why I was interested in him.”
“Maybe it’s the latter.”
“That’s probably why this card came out.”
Finally, the fifth card turned over was a picture similar to Greed, which was drawn during Corvin and the Four Barons.
“A demon of possessiveness, a card that came from your heart that you don’t want to lose me.”
In Tarot, a card is a chance given to a person and a destiny. Therefore, it can be said that it is up to the person to grasp and conform to it, or to miss it and disobey it. And that’s why prophecies are always vague.
“Something is strange. Was the original Tarot prophecy so easy to understand? …”
“It can’t be, even the devil’s card isn’t like that.”
However, so far, the prophecies of those who have seen Lucienne’s fortune-telling have not been so.
“Rather, it was ambiguous if more ambiguous.”
That was the absurdity that Lucienne was talking about.
“Of course I am a good mystic. And it’s easier for someone like me to interpret fortune-telling. But even taking that into account, this time it’s too much. As if there will be no other variables in the future of this Marquis Command for the time being.”
“For the time being, how much?”
“Even if I can’t do it, it’s a phenomenon that can’t be explained otherwise. Outside of the yoke of fate, nothing can happen without the intervention of something unexpected. And the only variable I’ve come to recognize lately is that knight, Dior’s Romuald.”
The previous meal was just an opportunity. I only dug into it after seeing the strange feeling of deja vu and the unexpected passage of fortune-telling I saw to resolve it.
“Again, I came to the conclusion that there must be something about him. So I tried to predict his fate his.”
Lucienne brilliantly shuffled her deck of cards, and she drew five from the bottom. Unlike her her, she wasn’t playing with her hands her, she explained what the flipped card was without even looking at it.
“Strife, Nobility, Regret, Corruption, and Fate.”
“I have no idea what that means…”
That was the problem.
“So do I. And he was the only one in this territory who came up with such an absurd riddle. So I had no choice but to draw the card of my mother who invited him next.”
Oriane Lemoang had a total of three cards. The devil of the wing that appeared in reverse position, the devil of the contract that appeared in the right position, and the devil of the last night.
“Wings, contracts, and night?”
“A straight wing means flight, but an inverted wing means a fall. Covenant and night literally refers to contract night.”
“You mean the mistress will make a contract with him as her vassal her, right?”
“Maybe.”
“Doesn’t this sound very strange?”
Lucienne agreed. However, if so, the question remained as to why only Romuald Dior’s cards came out like that. That’s why she even looked at her own divination of her.
“Finally, this is my card.”
Four cards are dealt face down, two each up and down. The first was a knight card against a demon. The second was a demon card that governs the past. The third was the inner demon card fighting for honor. The fourth was the Devil Lover’s card holding hands side by side.
“Do you know what this means, Bijou?”
“Um, a knight marrying a lady based on past honors?”
“Wrong.”
“Sure?”
“The knight was my husband in the past, even if it’s just a name.”
“Yes? What nonsense is that…”
The mystic’s prophecy was not over yet. As if Lucienne had listened to me to the end, she brought her index finger to her mouth her and added another word from her.
“And the past we are talking about here is a previous life.”
