Chapter 1893 – 1893. Eternal Eden
“Please… kill me. Please…”
David Kim said.
Mark and the other team members felt a sense of unease. The room, devoid of windows, was thick with the stench of blood. Their extensive experience told them that something terrible had happened in this room.
Yet, David’s body was unharmed. Not a single scratch. There was no light of hope in his eyes, and though his complexion was pale, there were no visible external injuries. It was a mental issue. He had been subjected to mental torture.
Mark approached David Kim.
“David Kim, pull yourself together. We came from the United States to rescue you. We need to get you back home.”
Mark patted David Kim’s shoulder, trying to help him up.
David Kim looked back at them. The soldiers who had come to save him, with serious expressions. Having regained some of his senses, David Kim shouted as if having a seizure.
“Get out! Get out of here! Get out, you idiots!!”
“…David Kim?”
“That bastard! You should have killed him first! No, can you even kill him? Go tell the higher-ups! His power isn’t just about controlling electricity! He can heal people! He can even revive the dead! He has a power that no human should ever have, a power that he should absolutely not possess! You must kill him first! That is, that is the only thing that can save this world!!”
Mark and the team members paused. The ability to revive the dead? Even if an Awakened One used superpowers, was that possible? Had David Kim gone mad from the torture?
Mark, a Player himself, had never heard of resurrection abilities, so he couldn’t be sure. He decided to withhold judgment for now.
“Relay David Kim’s words to command via radio.”
Static.
Only static came from the team member’s radio.
“It’s jammed.”
“…It seems they noticed our intrusion and took action.”
This was also the territory of a Technologist. It wasn’t strange for there to be signal interference. Mark tried to support David Kim by force. He pushed Mark away.
“Get out of here right now and go back to the United States! Go back and tell them what I said!!”
“David Kim! Our mission is to rescue you!”
“That bastard put something inside my stomach! Probably a bomb! Get out of here now!”
The faces of Mark and the team members were filled with shock. Something inside his stomach? They were shocked, but they quickly prepared to retreat.
“Go back… and take care of my family… my family. I don’t want any compensation. Just make sure they live safely.”
Bang!
Before David Kim could finish his sentence, an explosion occurred.
The explosion wasn’t as big as they had expected. The man closest to David Kim, who had a normal human body unlike the other team members, was unharmed. However, he was covered in David Kim’s blood and guts. David Kim died with his abdomen blown open.
“……”
It was the moment when their primary objective, the rescue of David Kim, had failed.
“David Kim was bait. We almost got into a dangerous situation.”
“…No, he wasn’t bait or anything. The explosive power was too low to think they were trying to kill us. I was just covered in blood. He just wanted to laugh at us. At us, who failed the mission and were in a bind.”
“What do we do? Do we relay David Kim’s words to command as a priority?”
“David Kim wasn’t in his right mind. There’s no guarantee that what he said is 100% true. And our mission isn’t over yet.”
“Do we eliminate the target as originally planned?”
“…Elimination is only for unavoidable situations. We can’t just ignore David Kim’s words either. First, we subdue him.”
Mark gestured. The team members dashed out in perfect unison. Security teams were swarming in. But before the security teams could pull their triggers, the team members’ guns spat fire. They were the elite of the trained soldiers. They were on a completely different level from the poorly trained security teams.
They rushed towards the main building where Sung Yoo-jin was.
Dududududu!
Four combat drones flew in from the sky. It was expected. The team members immediately threw the EMP grenades they had brought.
Bang!
Technologists weren’t only in Korea. These EMP grenades were also weapons made by a Technologist in the United States.
Dududududu!
“…The EMP grenades aren’t working.”
“Does it have EMP shielding? It’s not a technology that a single Technologist, not affiliated with a nation or a company, should be able to obtain.”
“Isn’t it possible that the Korean government is secretly supporting him? It wouldn’t be strange for them to consider a Technologist, who is like a national treasure, as something they shouldn’t just leave alone.”
“That’s true.”
They were relaxed.
Dealing with four armed combat drones? It was a simple task for them. They focused and shot at the combat drones, one shot at a time, carefully but quickly.
“Hit. The red sensor next to it is the weak point.”
It was a sensor the size of a thumb. Finding it was difficult, let alone hitting it. But the team members easily destroyed the combat drones’ sensors, silencing them.
“Two o’clock. Three more drones are approaching. They’re smaller than the ones we just dealt with. They don’t have guns either.”
“Bomb drones, then. John.”
“Yes, sir.”
John stepped forward and used his ability. A barrier was deployed. The bomb drones crashed into the barrier and exploded, but the barrier remained intact.
That’s when it happened.
A light flashed on the rooftop, and something flew down and struck the barrier.
Pajijijijik!
It was an electric shock. The barrier, which had been unaffected by the bomb drones, shook unstably from the electric shock.
“…Target located. He’s on the rooftop.”
“Is he planning to fight from a distance? Disengage the barrier and open fire.”
As soon as the barrier disappeared, they pulled their triggers. Bullets rained down on Sung Yoo-jin. Even though he was far away, it was within a range of about 100 meters. It wasn’t a long distance for them, so they had no doubt they would hit him. But the bullets didn’t reach Sung Yoo-jin’s body. The bullets suddenly stopped in front of Sung Yoo-jin and fell to the ground.
“…What is that?”
“It seems to be the use of an ability. I suspect he’s using magnetism. According to the intelligence department, an electric ability user has countless ways to use their power.”
“Guns don’t work? This is troublesome. Should we approach him?”
Approaching him wasn’t difficult. Sung Yoo-jin jumped towards the ground. Sung Yoo-jin was falling. The team members reflexively fired their guns. It was useless. Normal bullets couldn’t reach him. The armor-piercing rounds they had brought just in case would be the same. They needed other special rounds to deal with Sung Yoo-jin.
“John! Deflect it!”
Just before Sung Yoo-jin landed, John deployed a barrier. The barrier glowed with a gray light. The barrier had been given a reflective effect. Sung Yoo-jin was deflected away from the barrier with his sword. He did a somersault in the air and landed on the ground.
“Lucas!”
“Subdue him!”
Lucas reached out his hand towards Sung Yoo-jin and used his ability. Strings appeared from the ground and the air, grabbing Sung Yoo-jin’s body. Those caught by these strings couldn’t use their abilities. The core of the Great Awakened Unit was Lucas’s binding ability.
“Annoying, what is this.”
Sung Yoo-jin muttered as if annoyed. The strings bound his body and pulled him in different directions. It wasn’t enough to tear his body apart.
“…Why is he okay?”
Most Awakened Ones would throw up if their bodies were bound by the strings. The principle of the strings was to disrupt their minds and prevent them from using their abilities. Awakened Ones needed both physical and mental strength to activate their abilities.
“It seems he has a mental defense ability.”
“…It doesn’t matter. Once he’s bound, he won’t be able to move properly. Liam!”
“Oooooooo!”
Liam, the largest of the team members, charged towards Sung Yoo-jin. His body grew larger, and his skin turned to metal. Liam’s charge was no different from a speeding armored vehicle.
The anomaly started from here.
Sung Yoo-jin’s cutlass shone brightly with a silver light, illuminating the dark surroundings. It was like a lightsaber from a movie.
Even while bound, Sung Yoo-jin swung his sword with limited movement. The belief that he couldn’t possibly do anything to Liam with just a shining sword was immediately shattered.
Liam’s body was split in half. The man who wouldn’t be hurt even if hit by a speeding truck was bisected, spilling blood and guts, and died instantly.
It was a moment of pause from the shock.
Bang!
The barrier shook.
Mark quickly turned his head towards the sound. There was a woman wearing a baseball cap pulled low. The woman, holding a metal baseball bat, was smiling as she pounded on the barrier.
“Ah, it’s fun to break this thing!”
“Captain! It’s hard to hold on! This bitch is ridiculously strong…! Ugh!”
Clang!
The barrier shattered.
“Noah!”
“I can’t! It’s hard enough just to bind the target! If I release the target now, the situation will get worse!”
“Damn it. Picker! Take down that woman first!”
Picker turned his hand into a sword and swung it at Choi Hye-jin. Choi Hye-jin stepped back, dodging the attack. Her movements were light as she rested the baseball bat on her shoulder.
“It’s nothing compared to that guy swinging a sword.”
“You weren’t in the intel… what kind of bitch are you?”
“Why would you need to know?”
Choi Hye-jin approached Picker. She wasn’t afraid of Picker’s sword at all. Picker blocked the metal bat with his sword. The bat was split in half and fell to the ground. Choi Hye-jin clicked her tongue and gripped the shortened bat tightly.
There was a difference in skill between Choi Hye-jin and Picker. Choi Hye-jin instinctively knew that she would lose if the fight dragged on.
Thud.
Picker’s sword pierced and cut Choi Hye-jin’s abdomen. Choi Hye-jin hit Picker’s head with the shortened bat.
“To attack even while throwing away your own life… you crazy bitch.”
“We don’t have just one life. The problem is that it’s not mine, damn it.”
Choi Hye-jin also collapsed to the ground.
And immediately after, a bolt of lightning fell from the sky, electrocuting the entire Great Awakened Unit.
