Chapter 147 – Volume 30 – Inner Marchen (2)
“If we compete 1-on-1, there’s only one person left.”
Rosaria is currently away from work due to submission of work.
The only ones left in her villa were me, Yuria, and Orca, a total of three people.
And because of the characteristics of ‘Inner Marchen’, the game I’ve just created, it only supports 1v1 play.
Naturally, it becomes a situation where one person has to leave.
“If I’m with you from the start, the difference in level is huge, so why don’t I just explain and YuRia and Orca try it out?”
“Is this also a skill-based game like chess?”
“To some extent. Of course, it takes a lot of luck, like making strawberry milk.”
However, Strawberry Milk Making is a deduction game in which you trick your opponent and progress towards your goal little by little.
Inner Marchen was always a battle game in which victory was contested one-on-one.
Well, there are various genres in Cebu, too.
Anyway, even from the big picture, the way and composition of skills are completely different.
“Anyway, it’s a game where understanding of one’s own and opponent’s cards is important.”
No matter how lucky you are, your skills will inevitably differ depending on how you optimize the choices that come from that luck.
Of course, to some extent, there were parts that the game itself made by applying bad luck.
This was just like insurance, so that even if there was a problem with the balance, it would act as a buffer to the win rate as much as possible.
Even if TCG experts rush in and make it, balance is always a problem, and it’s not easy for me to catch it by myself.
“You can choose one out of five.”
“Sharp, Yuri, Rapunzel, Apple, Ella. Are they all girls?”
“Yes.”
Of course, it doesn’t matter that a male character appears, but I couldn’t help it because it was a game with a strong taste of mine.
But, except for one, all original fairy tales have girls as the main characters, right?
Anyway, due to the common concept of these works, it was natural not to include male characters, so I just included 5 female characters.
“Apple means apple, right? I like this! It’s a cute name.”
“Okay, then Orca, let’s use Apple. Yuria, what does it look like?”
“This.”
“It’s sharp.”
I have a feeling that both of them somehow chose a deck that suits them.
In Sharp’s case, it’s a story about a princess with a cold expression who doesn’t smile until the end, but Yuria basically doesn’t change her expression except when she’s gone.
In the case of Apple, as the species is an elf, there is a part that visually matches the orca.
Of course, it’s only when you look at the appearance, there’s a high possibility that the personality of each character doesn’t fit with them.
‘It’s fun to find something like that.’
As I handed over the decks one by one, the two of them began examining the cards curiously.
In particular, in the case of rare cards drawn in color, the expression of admiration was particularly well revealed.
It feels good to see that you are satisfied with such a visual aspect.
“Is there a reward for winning this?”
“Reward? It’s the first game, so do I have to bet?”
“Because betting is fun. Let’s bet something simple.”
“What is it, tell me.”
“Play one of these, take a nap, and monopolize Kali while you nap.”
“Oh! That sounds like fun!”
Rather than wanting to monopolize me in the first place, Orca seems to want to bet herself…?
Yuria seems to really want that.
I had nothing to lose, so I nodded her head.
“Okay. Let me explain first.”
There are three main types of cards in Inner Marchen.
Among them, there are two common ones.
There are ‘character’ cards that can be summoned to battle, and ‘event’ cards that temporarily change the situation.
The basic rule of the game is to shuffle these cards into the deck and draw and use them.
In fact, up to this point, the rules are very similar to other existing card games.
The difference is that there is a separate ‘Merchen’ card, which means the plot of a fairy tale.
Victory in Inner Marchen is not achieved by reducing the opponent’s life to 0, but by proceeding with ‘Marchen’ to see the ending.
This can be seen as a card that actually becomes a condition for victory.
A number called a stage is written on the Marchen card, and after matching the appearance conditions, the Marchen card of the stage is drawn out and so on.
Of course, since the Marchen card is also effective, the game becomes advantageous every time you progress.
Because of the rule that you win by drawing out the final ending card, the goal of the game is to proceed with your own Marchen faster while holding the opponent’s Marchen in check.
‘It’s a kind of racing game.’
In a state where the two Merchens collided.
By seeing the ending sooner, you prove that your Marchen is stronger.
“So, you can check Merhen at any time with a separate deck like this. And at the start of the turn, you can take out a Merhen that meets the conditions and proceed.”
However, it is less absurd to prevent the opponent from losing suddenly without knowing the deck.
To give it the feeling of an ultimatum, I put a process similar to a ‘check’ in chess.
If you want to use the ending Merchen, you must make a ‘Merchen Declaration’ in advance in the previous turn.
“It’s definitely like chess.”
“It’s not that you have to kill the opponent to win, it’s that you lead Märchen to the end and bring about surrender.”
“Ah, but then what are character cards? Event cards are similar to story cards in Strawberry Milk Making.”
Well, it’s a familiar monster concept to me.
This concept will be unfamiliar to them…
I decided to explain as basic as possible.
“As the name suggests, it’s a card with characters drawn on it. You can think of it as characters living in Marchen.”
Character cards have effects written on them like event cards, though.
The biggest difference is that the value of ‘power’ is written on it.
Naturally, this could be destroyed by attacking a low character with a large character card.
“Ah, they can fight each other?”
“That’s right. If you attack, the power of both sides is lowered by the power of the lower power, and the card whose power reaches 0 is destroyed.”
At the end of the turn, the power returns to normal.
This means that normally, when a more powerful card attacks, it rolls a snowball that can destroy one of the weaker cards without harm.
Instead, the rule is that it is possible to destroy a card with more power with several children with lower power.
“So, her power is 30 right? So if you attack with a 20, the 20 will be destroyed, but the 30’s power will temporarily change to 10.”
“Yeah, I understand.”
Then it becomes possible to destroy it with another 20 power card.
It’s not a special rule, but the level of choice exists when playing.
Still, I think that’s just the right thing to do.
“Lastly, for the cards with numbers written here, you must discard cards with that number.”
Originally, I was going to adopt a cost system based on the charging concept.
Because it was ambiguous to hire someone who is not familiar with such a system.
Adopted a system that uses the hand itself as a cost.
Instead, the initial high-cost rush was prevented by limiting the total cost or maximum cost of field character cards according to the progress of Marchen.
“Now, then, you can start by taking out the first Märchen.”
“Is this how we do it? Hmm… I, then, I want to summon this character card.”
Watching the game slowly begin to progress, I nodded.
The two seriously read the effects one by one and used the cards.
The story progressed while benefiting each other little by little.
“Oh, and when you’re not attacking. You can prepare instead of attacking.”
“Preparations?”
“Overall, it’s doing something that’s helpful to Märchen.”
Because there is no function to hit the opponent’s stomach in this game.
The remaining character cards on the field had to have an effect that benefited them.
And I decided to draw one card.
By declaring preparation instead of attacking, it became a rule that it was possible to draw one card.
“As I said before, you need a lot of cards to use high-cost cards, right?
“Aha…”
While listening to my explanation, I was watching the two of them battle with clumsy hands.
Orca started progressing Marchen faster than expected.
Is that a fairly optimal speed?
Do you have a talent for playing card games?
“…So today, the orchard girl lied to the elves and said that the orcs had invaded.”
Apple’s deck used by Orca is the Marchen, titled ‘The Tale of the Golden Apple Orchard’.
It was a work that modified ‘Shepherd Boy’ by comparing it to the history of this worldview as much as possible.
The elves, who were not on good terms with the orcs, were cultivating a magical apple called the golden apple.
The orchard girl who managed it was a prankster who always lied about the orcs invading.
Because of that, when the orcs really invade, the villagers don’t come to help.
The only difference was that the orcs kidnapped the girl as well to create and manage the orchard themselves.
But the girl has guilt and a sense of belonging, so she refuses to tell the secret that keeps her apologetic until the end.
In the meantime, the story ends with the villagers coming to the rescue.
“No, what is it?”
“Ehehe… You were tricked?”
“I felt it when I was making strawberry milk, but he’s good at lying…”
Surprisingly, when Orca performed well, Yuria began to feel sorry for her, saying that it would be difficult for her to take a nap on her chest pillow, which she wanted.
But a chest pillow nap, by any chance, is it that I use your huge breasts as a pillow to sleep on my back?
…Cheer up!
