Chapter 46 – Chapter 46 – The Truth and the Mercenary
Grace SIDE
After waking up in the morning, I immediately moved to the imperial castle, guided by family members.
Having made up my mind, I warmly looked at Ian, who was seeing me off, and got into the car.
It felt like being dragged into a battlefield.
The inside of the car moving smoothly was quiet and full of only the sound of my heart trembling wildly from tension.
I closed my eyes and tried to relax as much as possible.
I thought it was too much to worry about, so I kept repeating it so that I had the idea that if many people from my previous life had already come, I would not get rid of them, even if I would manage them to some extent .
And the car stopped.
The door opened and I made up my mind and went out.
The imperial palace was lined with huge and splendid buildings, just like the Forbidden City from her previous life.
The man who opened the door was wearing a uniform.
After the man told me to follow him, he took the lead and started walking toward a white building that was different from the other fancy buildings.
I obediently followed him.
Inside the white building, people who looked like researchers were walking around wearing white coats.
It looked like a laboratory in my previous life and was far from a place that looked like this in my previous life, so I followed it while scanning the surroundings.
After going in for a while, the man soon reached the iron gate.
On both sides of the iron gate, there were two men in uniforms with swords at her waist.
A man held out her hand without saying anything, and the man who led me took out something the size of a business card from her pocket and handed it to what seemed to be a security guard.
The man in uniform looked carefully at what appeared to be the business card, as if confirming something.
After a few seconds of confirmation, he handed me over to the man who led me and opened the door.
And the moment I checked the man who had returned to his normal posture, the man who guided me got out of the way and started talking to me.
“I’ll guide you again when my business is over. Until then, I’ll wait outside.”
“Yes”
Responding to his words, I entered the room.
And I felt like I was back on Earth.
Other places were just curious because of the sense of difference from the previous life, but this room was different.
The researcher’s room, which was sometimes shown on TV, was like this. The bookshelves were lined with various books, and documents, various kinds of books, and reagents were scattered on each desk to see if they were researching something.
And the room was filled with a bitter and salty strange smell that tickled my nose.
As I turned my gaze around, I could spot a man with shaggy black hair sitting on the floor in the middle of the heating room, soaked in a strange nostalgia, reading something.
A musty smell emanated from him as if he had not washed for several days.
I decided that he was the one who could solve my questions and started talking.
“There…”
As my voice echoed through the room, the man lifted his head as if he had finally noticed.
And I realized that this man, like me, was not born here, but he came over.
The man with obvious characteristics of the yellow race looked at my body as if he was scanning it with a sullen expression, and answered as if he threw it away.
“Aren’t you ashamed to dress like that?”
“…Yes?”
“Huh, by the way, you’re the person who’s coming today. Shut it off… I’m not an idle person.”
“………”
The self-talking man scratched her head, picked up the clutter and crystals lying in her corner her, and approached me.
And without saying anything, she held it out to me and shook it nervously, as if telling me to pick it up quickly.
I reflexively placed her hand on the crystal, embarrassed.
Then, after a faint light emitted from the crystal, she completely disappeared.
As soon as the man saw it, he began examining her crystal her.
The man nodded his head, put it on his desk, then brought a piece of paper and started scribbling something down.
“Oh, what’s your name?”
“… Grace.”
“Um um Grace… Ok, get it done. And bye bye”
The man who put the papers in my hand pushed me on the back and sent me outside as if he was annoyed, then she closed the door.
I stood in a daze of embarrassment, holding the papers.
The man she was waiting outside saw me like that and sighed deeply before talking to me.
“Looks like you didn’t explain properly. Haa…… Follow me, I’ll give you a proper explanation there.”
“Yes…”
Having said that, the man takes the lead and starts walking.
I looked back slightly with a bewildered look and immediately followed.
Her man’s steps stopped only after entering a certain room.
In the room, a sharp-eyed, auburn-haired woman was sitting on her chair and handling various papers.
And the woman lifted her head as soon as she felt the presence of us entering her room.
“Excuse me, Warden. I brought a new stranger I discovered.”
“Is that so… You’ve worked hard. Now, please come here. Stranger”
She politely gestured to the chair in front of me.
I took the papers and sat quietly in the chair.
Then the man standing next to me said to me.
“Documents…”
“Ah yes”
When I handed him the papers, her man picked them up and handed them over to the warden.
“……… The explanation is… Hmm, of course you didn’t hear it.”
She read the papers slowly, checked my face, and spoke again.
“First of all… I have to explain everything.”
After gently touching her forehead, she opened her mouth.
It was a word referring to those who came from another world like me, a stranger.
They said that they were the ones who came over here with a variety of knowledge or special abilities to benefit the world or to confuse the world.
However, it is true that it is helpful, and that unconditional oppression makes the empire rather dangerous.
Then she asked me if I had a higher level of technology than the current era.
I said no, of course, and she nodded her head, scribbled something on the paperwork, and returned it to me.
“Please read it slowly.”
Nodding my head at her words her, I started reading it from cover to cover.
The document was a contract.
The contract stipulated that modern knowledge should not be used recklessly, and that if one intended to create something using the knowledge, it had to be copyrighted and produced under Imperial control.
And my unique ability was also written.
An ability called adaptation was written, and the details were written as an ability that had not yet been discovered.
As I continued reading, basically the Empire’s policy toward strangers was neglect.
It was helping them adapt to the current world and finding jobs as they came over like an accident.
Even prominent researchers have not been able to clearly explain the sudden birth and arrival of strangers, and they say there is no way to send them back.
After reading it all, I breathed a sigh of relief.
The Empire does not persecute the Gentiles.
After realizing that fact, the burden on my heart seemed to disappear.
The warden opened his mouth as if he thought I had read the contract.
“Basically, the Empire supports the outlanders… But have you already decided what to do?”
“….. I’m thinking of a mercenary.”
“Okay. Then I’ll register right here and now. Sign the contract and hand it to me.”
“Yes”
I picked up the pen they gave me and signed it.
The warden took the files and looked at them putting them in one place before talking.
“Could it be possible for my husband to register?”
“Your husband?”
“Yes…”
“It doesn’t matter. Just tell me your name and I’ll register you the same.”
“It’s Ian.”
“Well, I see. Wait a minute. I’ll take care of it right away.”
Opening the drawer and taking out some documents, the warden used a pen to fill in the items and handed them to me, asking me to write down Ian and I’s birthplace and basic physical records.
After I filled in all the items and handed them over, the warden, who checked to see if anything was missing, stood up, opened the door located in the corner of the room, went inside, and after a while, came out holding two bronze plaques in his hands.
“Here it is. Grace, and if you’re thinking of doing mercenary work, I’d recommend the fortress city line near the Serpent’s Spine Mountains rather than the capital.”
“Thank you…”
“Please guide me with special words”
When the warden spoke to his man his, the man nodded and said to me.
“I will guide you. Follow me.”
“Yes”
The warden and I bowed slightly to each other and left the room.
Following his guidance, I came out and saw the blue sky and sighed in relief once again! Rested and went back to the mansion.
After I found Ian, I immediately told him to leave, and together we packed our things and left the mansion.
