Chapter 188 – The Temple
There wasn’t much left until tolerance. The head of the temple corps was already crossing the drawbridge toward the inner city. Now, it was a situation where only we, the rearguard, had to move on.
“Damn it, these bastards are so persistent.”
The problem was that the undead clinging to it was no joke. If you lose your guard for a second, your limbs will fly off one by one. It is impossible to cross the drawbridge.
‘What are those bastards doing without helping?’
It was a problem that could be solved if the adventurers who had entered the castle came out and helped a little. I turned my head and looked inside the closet. The adventurers who entered the castle were divided into two groups and fighting.
Why are you fighting in this situation?
I turned on the Wolf’s Pact and overheard the quarrel.
– You asshole! Close it! If the undead come over like this, will you take responsibility?
– If you close it? Are you telling me to follow those who haven’t passed yet? Are you fucking crazy?
The two groups were arguing over whether or not to raise the drawbridge.
Those fucking bastards?
I can’t.
“Seris, Kara! Go first!”
I said as I kicked the undead that was biting Seris’s shield.
“Yes? How about Yooseong?”
“I’ll go when this place is cleaned up a bit. Go in first.”
“Brother, what are you talking about! If you’re going, you should go in together. I’d rather send Ariel her sister first.”
“He’s already in.”
“What?”
Kara made a puzzled expression. Even so, she did not forget to slit the head of the undead.
“I don’t have time. You go in first I will follow you right away.”
While talking, an undead with impressive red hair opened its mouth and tried to bite my shoulder. He handed me an arm guard instead of my shoulder and stuck a dagger to my temple.
“…You have to come right away.”
“Okay.”
Seris nodded her head as she spoke with a serious expression. She grabbed Kara’s arm and turned her toward her drawbridge before hesitating.
“What are you doing not going?!”
I cried out in frustration. It wasn’t until she looked back in the direction she was looking that she realized why she had stopped.
The paladins were coming.
The undead collapsed under the white swordlight they wielded. Thanks to this, we were able to escape from the undead hordes, albeit for a short time, and we immediately ran towards the resistance.
“Come quickly!”
An adventurer who was against the raising of the drawbridge waved his arm to come.
When all the remaining adventurers entered the castle, the paladins also returned one by one. When the paladins all crossed the drawbridge, Melissa shouted.
“Turn it!”
At her command, three adventurers joined each pulley and started turning the pulley.
Kirik. Kirik.
The drawbridge rose little by little each time the chain was wrapped around the pulley. The undead crossing the drawbridge suddenly fell into the waterway or came down the drawbridge like a slide.
The undead that came over were dealt with by the paladins.
Clap.
The drawbridge is fully raised. The tension that had been lingering within me was gone. Some adventurers even sat down as if their legs were weak.
I approached one of the sunken adventurers and grabbed him by the collar. He is the guy who went mad earlier saying he had to raise the drawbridge.
“What, what?!”
“Hey, this fuck. What? Raise the drawbridge? Raise the drawbridge when we’re fucking alive and well?”
He also turned his head to avoid my gaze. I punched him in the jaw.
“Ah! What are you…”
What the hell
I threw him to the floor, climbed on top of him, and continued to swing his fists. They beat him in the face, and when he tried to block it with his arm, they struck him in the side. When he stretched out his fist in an attempt to defy his form, he struck harder.
Puck. Puck. Puck. Awesome!
There was a dull sound of something breaking, but I didn’t stop.
“Hey, it’s a bit harsh.”
Suddenly, someone reached out to stop it, as if this was a bit too much. Another Kara snatched that hand.
“Serious? Had you closed it, we would have been pinned to death outside! But are you saying it’s serious?”
“…”
The adventurer who tried to stop him shut his mouth. Kara frowned as if she didn’t like it.
“…Is it okay if you just shut your mouth? Did we almost die?”
Kwajik!
Kara thrust her fist into the bridge of her adventurer’s nose. As if that was a signal, the adventurers who were about to die outside began to come forward one by one.
“Yeah, fuck. I almost fell behind because of those bastards.”
“Even if you don’t have any morals, do you abandon your co-workers so easily?”
Thump. The sound of a fist being released.
A sense of tension, as if a gang fight would break out at any moment, lingered inside the inner sanctum. It was time for the adventurers to glar at each other and gauge the timing of entry.
“Stop moving!”
A loud voice that resonated inside my inner self.
That voice had the power to stop the wrathful adventurers.
That was also the case because the one who spoke out was the commander of the Holy Knights.
“No more fuss will be tolerated.”
She said solemnly.
One of the adventurers who were enraged at that rebelled.
“Paladin! Those bastards are scum who tried to abandon their comrades! If they had raised the drawbridge, we would have died!”
“So we didn’t save you? Did the drawbridge finally close? So you guys almost died in isolation?”
“It’s not… But… Anyway, it’s true that those bastards were trying to do it.”
“Yes. If you don’t like that, let’s discuss it separately after this is over. You are working now And there. You should have relieved your anger to some extent, so let go of that friend soon.”
Melissa looked at me and said. I shrugged and let go of the adventurer whose face was a mess.
When I, who started first, quit, the heat among the adventurers cooled. They grumbled and went back to their seats.
“I will move as soon as the treatment of the wounded is over.”
As soon as Melissa finished speaking, the nuns approached and looked after the injured adventurers.
I was not particularly hurt, so I fell to the side so as not to interfere with the treatment. As I leaned against the wall and stayed still, Seris, Kara, and Ariel returned to my side.
Ariel looked at me and frowned.
“Why are you fighting! What if there is a big fight!”
“Ariel, why are you yelling at your brother?”
“You almost had a gang fight! Because of him, even I was in danger!”
“When my sister was outside the cage, she ran into the inner enclosure alone. Are you qualified to say that?”
“…”
As Kara glared at her and argued, Ariel bit her mouth tightly. I sighed and told the two of them.
“I hit you knowing you were going to stop it.”
At my words, Celis tilted her head.
“Did you know that he hit you? You mean you knew the paladins would stop you?”
“Of course. Wouldn’t it be natural to stop the adventurers who brought it because it’s a holy war if they try to fight?”
As long as those adventurers tried to abandon us, it was a fire that would explode someday. Then wouldn’t it be better for me to explode it first so that it is controllable?
When she said that, Seris and Kara nodded her heads in understanding. Ariel had a slightly pouty expression on her face.
“Check to see if there are any injuries. It looks like we’ll be leaving in a little while.”
After a while, all the injured were treated and the temple staff moved forward.
* * *
The hallway of the inner sanctuary was wide, so there was no inconvenience in moving the sanctuary. However, all the lanterns lighting the hallway were off, so we had to light the hallway with torches ourselves.
“It’s kind of creepy…”
Cerys said while stroking her own forearm. True to her words, the chill got worse as she moved forward. The back of her neck is wrapped and the skin stands out.
Should I be anxious or should I be uncomfortable?
A feeling that is difficult to express in words set off an alarm.
After going on for a while, I was able to reach a large circular corridor.
“Is this…?”
One of the adventurers let out a bewildered voice.
Even so, there was something quite foreign about this place. The light of the torch did not reach the subject wide enough to accommodate all the temple staff. Anywhere on the wall or floor.
It was the time when I thought I should split up and take a look.
Suddenly, a green light flared up in the center of the corridor, illuminating the entire corridor.
In the center is a strange model made of a human corpse. A strange circular magic circle was drawn around the strange model on the floor.
The color is red and black… Could this be blood?
It was time to take a closer look.
“…Run forward! Get out of the corridor!”
Melissa exclaimed urgently, perhaps realizing that something was out of the ordinary. However, the red magic circle drawn on the floor started to glow faster.
Along with a throbbing head, there was a feeling of nausea and vomiting. What is it all of a sudden? I staggered to catch my balance and rubbed my eyelids.
The dizzy feeling got better little by little. I opened my eyes with a dry face wash,
When I opened my eyes, I was alone.
Seris, Kara, and Ariel were all around. Above all, this place was not the corridor of before.
A long hallway made of gray bricks.
I tried the Wolf’s Pact, but it wasn’t an illusion.
What kind of shit is this again?
