Chapter 1729 – 1729. Savior Of The Academy
The Flash didn’t activate. That fact alone soured my mood.
‘What a load of crap.’
C-Rank villain Kazuhiro was right in front of me, swinging his sword. I met his attack with my own blade. Flustered, I blocked his sword and retreated.
“Where’d that earlier bravado go?! Amuse me a little more, kid!”
“If I could just use Flash, you wouldn’t even be worth a single strike…”
Clang. Clang.
Sparks flew every time our swords collided.
I was managing to block Kazuhiro’s attacks, but it was hard to focus on the fight. The only thing on my mind was the fact that I couldn’t use Lightning or Flash. This was completely unexpected.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Even though I perfectly blocked Kazuhiro’s attacks, small cuts kept appearing on my body.
‘They’re more like scratches than cuts, but… they’re getting worse over time.’
It’s like the saying goes, “Little strokes fell great oaks.” If this kept up, my whole body would be soaked in blood.
‘Is this really virtual reality? The feeling of swinging the sword and even the pain are so vivid.’
My head was a mess. Still, my eyes were fixed on Kazuhiro’s sword. Kazuhiro lightly leaped. A downward slash, putting his full weight into it. I held my sword sideways, blocking his attack.
My left forearm was cut. This time it was pretty deep. Blood gushed out as if a vein had been severed.
I kicked him in the stomach with a side kick. He flew backward and fell. He immediately got up and laughed.
“Haha. You’re still so lively even after losing so much blood. Is it because you’re young?”
“Is that your ability?”
“It’s called ‘Invisible Edge.’ No matter how many times you block my sword, the invisible blade will eventually reach your body. You’ve experienced it yourself, so I don’t need to explain, right?”
Kazuhiro grinned menacingly and charged. I understood why his swordsmanship was so crude. He was deliberately sticking to a clumsy style. Making it easy for his opponent to block, so he could slowly enjoy watching them fall into the abyss of death with his ability.
‘Gotta say, he’s a real villain.’
C-Rank villain Kazuhiro. Thinking about it, wasn’t he too high of a difficulty for the academy students?
‘No. Judging by how he’s underestimating me, calling me a kid, is he actually D-Rank?’
Maybe it was because of the blood loss, but my confusion lessened, and my mind became clear.
Kazuhiro, who had come closer, lowered his upper body. His sword, hidden by his torso, moved from his waist. From below to above. Diagonal. It wasn’t hard to predict the direction.
I’ll settle it here.
I deliberately focused my concentration. It felt like time had slowed down. Of course, it wasn’t as slow as when I used Flash.
Thunder Sky Style (雷天流) Obscured Moon (蔽月).
Crack.
Lightning energy (雷氣) spread throughout my body, and my upper body swayed like a flower petal. Obscured Moon was a technique created solely to counter the Eternal Sky Style. It was a technique with a high chance of failure, but… maybe because I used it in the Thunder Sky Style, it was a definite success this time.
Kazuhiro’s blade narrowly missed me. His ability, Invisible Edge, didn’t wound me either.
‘I see. If I don’t block it, the ability doesn’t activate.’
The counterattack followed like a flowing stream. The lightning energy that had spread throughout my body instantly gathered on my sword.
Thunder Sky Style (雷天流) Lightning Flash (雷光).
The sword in my hand flashed like lightning, and I beheaded Kazuhiro. His head fell to the ground. His face was twisted in agony. Immediately after, blood spurted from his neck, and his body fell to the floor.
「Unidentified martial art detected.」
「What is the name of the martial art?」
“Do I really have to say it?”
A notification window popped up. I sighed and asked back. The blood on my body, my pounding heart, the feeling of killing an enemy. Everything was just like reality. The virtual reality was way too real than I had imagined.
「It is necessary for the student’s accurate data.」
「Grades are calculated based on accurate data. Please tell us the name of the martial art for the sake of your grades.」
“It’s Thunder Sky Style.”
「Thunder Sky Style. Confirmed.」
「The student’s data is still insufficient. Please continue the battle.」
Ten beams of light fell from the sky. The lights turned into monsters.
Orcs. Ten green monsters, familiar if you were familiar with them, each fully armed, exuded killing intent toward me. I gripped my sword. All the wounds on my body had already healed.
‘Full recovery level, huh?’
Of course, I didn’t use Full Recovery.
Now that I was calm, I experimented with various things that came to mind.
‘End game.’
[Do you want to end the game?]
The game life app responded immediately. Even in virtual reality, I could end the game. It didn’t seem like there was a bug in the game life app.
‘The reason I can’t use Lightning and Flash… is it because this is virtual reality?’
But then again, I could use Thunder Sky Style.
‘Full Recovery.’
Full Recovery didn’t respond.
I had a vague idea of what the cause was.
I understood how to use Thunder Sky Style, how it manifested. On the other hand, I didn’t know about Lightning, Flash, and Full Recovery. I didn’t know exactly how they manifested. The game life app was assisting with all of them.
‘I can use Thunder Sky Style without the game life app’s assistance. Although the power is a bit weaker.’
This wasn’t reality, but virtual reality.
And there were still things left to experiment with.
‘Spirit Eye.’
Mana gathered in my eyes, glowing gold. I looked around and clicked my tongue. I could see mana, but it felt foreign.
‘Heavenly Eye.’
I used Heavenly Eye. One of Heavenly Eye’s abilities was the ability to see from a different perspective. I could see myself inside the capsule. I looked like I was sleeping with my eyes closed. If I changed the perspective a bit more, I could see Kurosawa Yui tapping away at her laptop.
She was watching my and Seong Hari’s data. It was in the form of graphs and numbers, so I couldn’t tell exactly what kind of data it was. The numbers kept changing, but the speed was slow. It wasn’t a laptop performance issue. Time was flowing differently.
‘About five times slower, maybe.’
I deactivated Heavenly Eye. It felt quite uncomfortable, like my vision had doubled.
‘Heavenly Heart.’
Heavenly Heart didn’t respond.
‘Heavenly Luck.’
The target was an orc. What I wanted was the probability of the orc running at the front suddenly dying.
[You can use Heavenly Luck. 1 point is required to increase the probability by 5%.]
[Heavenly Luck is used. The current probability is 5.005%.]
Heavenly Luck was activated.
It had the disadvantage of requiring points, but to experiment, I changed the probability of the orc suddenly dying to 100%. I used a total of 20 points.
[The current probability is 100%.]
The orc that was charging at the front spurted blood and collapsed. It was dead.
The other orcs paused, but only for a moment. They charged at me, burning with fighting spirit.
‘Did the virtual reality AI not notice?’
There was still more to experiment with.
‘Hacking.’
[Hacking successful.]
[Hacking the Terra Simulator for 1.3 seconds.]
I erased the orcs in front of me.
The orcs disappeared as I wished. But not all of them disappeared. Only 5 of them disappeared.
「An unknown error has occurred.」
「Recovering the error.」
The orcs that had disappeared reappeared. 5 orcs. The AI determined that the orc that had suddenly died from Heavenly Luck was not an error.
“Wait a minute. I’m a spiritist. I used Spirit Eye, but I can’t feel any spirit power at all. If you want to implement my data, implement spirit power too.”
「Reconfiguring the environment.」
I could feel spirit power. Unlike mana, spirit power wasn’t perfect. It felt like something was missing compared to real spirit power.
I used Spirit Contract (A). Spirit power surged, and a spirit was summoned.
It was a fire salamander. Also known as a salamander, it was a mid-grade fire spirit.
“Salamander. I want a contract.”
“Understood.”
Spirit Eye and Spirit Contract were implemented in virtual reality. This was a bit unexpected.
‘If this can be implemented, can’t Lightning and Flash be implemented too?’
Well, strictly speaking, the two powers had different origins. Spirit Eye and Spirit Contract were powers of this world, while Lightning and Flash were powers of the game life app.
“Salamander. Turn those pig bastards into roasted pork.”
“Understood.”
The spirit’s response was too cool.
‘This is different from reality. Real spirits are picky.’
Spirits above mid-grade don’t easily contract. Even if they did, they could refuse orders if they weren’t close to you.
The salamander opened its mouth and spewed fire. The flames grew larger and instantly burned all nine orcs.
Mana drained quickly. But I could handle this much.
「The student’s data is still insufficient. Please continue the battle.」
A new monster appeared. It was an eagle bigger than a person.
“Alright, then. Let’s see how far you can go.”
I pointed at the monster and ordered the salamander.
“Burn it.”
“Understood.”
Whoosh!
Flames soared into the sky. The giant eagle spread its wings and dodged. I controlled the salamander to keep harassing the giant eagle.
After a total of 7 battles, the AI spoke.
「Hasegawa Sota’s data collection is complete.」
「Updating information.」
「Name: Hasegawa Sota
Affiliation: Caso Academy 3rd Year Class A
Level: 1
Job: Spiritist
Sub-Job: -」
「Please select a sub-job.」
“Sub-job? You arbitrarily decide my job, and then you tell me to decide my sub-job?”
「The job represents the student’s aptitude. The sub-job represents the desired combat style and growth direction. The sub-job can be postponed.」
“I guess there are some guys who have an aptitude for swordsmanship but want to be archers who use bows. So, you’re reflecting the student’s opinion to some extent.”
It would be right to choose something like swordsman as a sub-job. But that’s too boring. I wanted something different.
“Sex Master.”
「That job does not exist.」
“Massage Master.”
「That job does not exist.」
“I don’t know why they don’t exist. AI rapist.”
「That job does not exist. Please choose a proper job. If you do not act with the proper attitude, penalty points will be imposed.」
“Don’t I have administrator privileges?”
「Hasegawa Sota’s administrator privileges are special. Your surface-level authority is that of a student.」
“Oh, is that so? Then just show me what jobs I can choose from.”
A list of jobs appeared.
I clicked my tongue. There were no hidden jobs that should be in a virtual reality game. There were some somewhat unique jobs, but they weren’t my style.
“Something very different… Should I try Priest? Priest!”
「Sub-job has been set.」
「Name: Hasegawa Sota
Affiliation: Caso Academy 3rd Year Class A
Level: 1
Job: Spiritist
Sub-Job Level: 1
Sub-Job: Priest」
「The sub-job can be changed later. However, when changing the sub-job, the sub-job level will be reset.」
「Ending the tutorial.」
「Moving to Caso Academy.」
